Carriker has character though. And that will increase his value. He's better than Daniels is now that's for sure. If Blache is happy with Golston, Griffin, and Montgomery (6'5" 300lbs), Carriker fits the bill. So does Jamaal Anderson. We need to aquire another first day selection since we do not have a lot of success scouting and/or developing late rounders so, trading down seems likely. Who's going to fall into our lap is the real question. What moves will the FO have to make to get the guy they need. Look at the position we were in last year when we seemingly almost lost out on drafting McIntosh (and they were others LBs we had rated above him). Branch, Okoye, Anderson, Adams, Harrell and Carriker are said to be future NFL stars but, which of these guys falls to 31st overall barring a trade with CHI (I used the briggs trade only because it's the likely team with a late round pick willing to trade, therefore the 'worst case scenario')?

would u rather take a guy who might have more potential than carriker but doesnt fit our system? or would u rather reach for carriker, who fits our system. carriker, branch, and okoye would be the 3 best fits imo, followed by anderson.

I dont think okoye fits in our system very well. I think that Griffin is the pass rusher and we need a run stuffer, and at 295, Okoye is not that guy. He is very good at what he does, but as long as we have Griffin as our pass rushing dt, i dont think okoye will be a good fit to complement him.

By the time that Okoye reaches his ultimate potential, do you really think that Griffin will still be on the roster?

no, but i also believe that our drafting should impact our immediate needs, if you are always looking to the future, you will never succeed in the present. If we start building for a future team, then we are just throwing this season away.

How can you fill immediate needs with draft picks? A rookie is roughly 50% of the total player he will be in his prime. Even in his 2nd year, he's going to roughly be between 70 and 75% of the player he will ever be. This goes for pretty much all prospects.

It seems that a team would be much better off going to get a vet to fill immediate holes.

I mean, if you end up getting a historically great player, then playing him at 50% of what he will be wont hurt your team. But historically great players are impossible to predict, and don't occur very often.

If we had built in the past, we would be succeeding now. You can't pick a guy who is going to help the team now, you just can't. Almost certainly anyone we pick will be no better than the guy we already have at the position as a rookie. So we have to look at our future needs. We can't pass on a great player like Okoye because a guy who won't be here in two years doesn't compliment him well. See what I'm saying?

I like that Smooty, I believe that would be a nice draft for us, getting both Moss and Blalock will defiently take some keen manuvering by our front office, but I don't think they have the savvy to do so, but I like where your going with it.

We'll have to trade down from 6th overall and trade away our next year's first rounder to get Harrell, Moss, and Blalock or any two top 10 DL (take your choice) and a top 5 OL. FO doesn't hesitate to deal away future picks. That's why we're in the position we're in. Imagine having the 6th overall pick and the 38th overall pick (which we traded) this year. Who would we be drooling over now?

I wouldn't do that, we could trade down twice in the first round and take either Blalock or Moss, then manuver those picks back into the first for the other. The other 2 players may be late first day picks, or second day picks I am not sure. But they wouldn't require a first or second rounder next year, and if they did maybe we come away with someones #1 next season while we deal down and use that. Easier said then done, but by no means out of reach with some shrewd manuvering. Although that last sentence is kind of laughable considering our draft savvy.

As of right now, we have the 6th overall selection and selections in rounds that have little value. Even if we trade down once, that only warrants two first day picks. How else do we aquire three first day picks while having a shot at top tier prospects we're refering to? I hinted that we've traded away future first rounders for day one picks (Jason Campbell). Why should we rule that out? Trading down with NE is a possibility on paper (all of our points are) but, NE values the draft and that's why they're a model franchise. I'll go as far as to saying this. NE doesn't want anybody at #6 but Calvin Johnson. And if he's still available then the 'Skins will draft him.

I guess, but it should be a while before fills out his body and adapts to it, and by then Griffin will be too old to be a pass rusher, and we will probably want him there.
