What's with the Ref. in the booth
The skins hired a retired referee to assist coach gibbs in challenging bad calls. What was his problem when Brunell got the first down on the one yard line?

For whatever reason he advised Gibbs to not challenge it. Maybe he didn't have the same angle that we saw on TV, that's about the only reason I can think of because it was pretty clear that it was a first down all the way.
What was up with that spot from the refs anyway?? Just horrible. |

yeah the refs were not ontop of that one for sure. So he did advise them not to challenge it. I was thinking maybe he did not really see it and said nothing at all (well atleast that is what i was hoping)

i dont know how many challenges we will see from gibbs this year, for some reason ithink he wont want to risk losing the timeout, unless its really, really evident or in the 4th quarter and is desperately needed.

At the time (not knowing what the final result was going to be) did you guys think maybe we should have gone for it anyway on 4th down? I guess you always want to go for the sure points but I like the idea of sending a message with a "bold" decision like that

I liked the decision to take the points.
God forbid they went for it and got stopped, that could have really changed the momentum of the game. |

Also, I have read - on the Bucs forum for what it's worth - that Brunnell's elbow hit the turf with the ball short of the first down (in which case he is down). Did the TV replay show this?
As I was 4 rows from the top of the stadium, I don't think I had the best angle. |

I'm pretty sure the replay showed his elbow hit the turf well past the marker.

it defenitely did not hit the turf. I had a non redskin fan watching the game with me and even admitted that was horrible.

Taking the points was classic Gibbs in this situation. He was not going to take a chance for a momentum shift when he knew they were pounding the crap out of them.

I don't know if hiring a x-ref is a good thing, #1, half these guy's are blind to begin with while they are active, I really don't want to know what the guy's vision is like after he retires?????
#2, I wonder if he would have some reservation's about alway's second guessing his buddies? Knowing the rules isn't really a big deal in the replay booth, being able to see is, anyone can watch a replay, it's not rocket science, the fact that he didn't challenge that spot at the goal line on the run by Brunnell, put's a red flag up for me, even if your not sure, challenge it any way, it's the first half take a shot, we could have overturned 2 play's, instead are inablity to get the call right, really helped the Buc's stay in the game, this can't happen again, hopefully Gibb's read's this guy the riot act. |
