Re: Is Cooley Still Considered an H-Back?

The NFL actually did change the numbering rules for wide receivers since teams started running out of 80-89 for the number of wideouts and tight ends they carry. Then, they decided to let WRs use #11-19. If I had my way, all wideouts in the league would be 80-89 and tight ends would be able to choose between 20-49, along with running backs and defensive backs. I don't know why, but wide receivers are such a recognizable part of the game, (second only to quarterbacks) I think they should all be known for one particular set of numbers. If only I ruled the world ... |

I know that the league loosend the number rule for WR and TE but I have to admit I am not sure what sets of numbers were approved other than 11-19. Last edited by Skinsfan1967; 06-26-2007 at 08:26 PM. Reason: missed type |

Re: Is Cooley Still Considered an H-Back?
Last year sellers played H-Back. He participated in the passing game as well as lead blocking. The true essence of an H-Back.

Saunders' offense doesn't use a true H-Back. |

Sellers is the Fullback and Cooley is the H-Back. Under Gibbs before Al Cooley was more of a TE than ever. He used to line up at the line of scrimmage much more often. Under Al Cooley is split out flexed more and seems to me that its just what an H-back is. Not a Fullback, Not a TE, Not a receiver.....H-BACK!!! Sorry AL, you use an H-BACK!! |

Re: Is Cooley Still Considered an H-Back?
So what would be the difference in cost for a franchised TE and a franchised H-Back. Would they just go by the average of the top TE's in the league or H-Backs? Kind of a loop hole if it would work, there aren't many H-Backs(on paper) in the NFL. Regardless I pray it wouldn't come to us franchising Cooley!

I don't dispute that he is considered a TE

Re: Is Cooley Still Considered an H-Back?
Playing Saunders's Name Game
On the surface, the change is merely new terminology, made for the sake of simplicity. The Washington Redskins, under new associate head coach Al Saunders, no longer employ H-backs, but, the staff says, those previously deemed an H-back will now carry virtually the same responsibilities as either a tight end or fullback. For the two most prominent former H-backs on the roster, however, Chris Cooley (now a tight end) and Mike Sellers (now a fullback), the move will result in several new wrinkles. The Redskins beefed up at wide receiver in the offseason and already had a star running back, but Saunders is just as intrigued by the possibilities presented by Cooley and Sellers, whose skills can create confounding matchup problems for opposing defenses. |

Re: Is Cooley Still Considered an H-Back?
Good point with the salary cap. If I was him a would get pissed after a while being looked over by Alge Crumpler (who drops alot of passes), Jason Witten, and Jeremey Shockey. Lets agree Cooley is as good as Crumpler and better/more consistent then Witten and Shockey. It's just not right.

Re: Is Cooley Still Considered an H-Back?
Shockey has been on his way down for a while now. Witten is good, but not as good as Cooley. Crumpler gets the stats because he is Vick's ONLY reliable target. Honestly, I think long and hard and really I can only see Gonzo as a better overall TE than Cooley.
