Re: Portis Apologizes For Dog Fighting Comment
I love all animals, particularly dogs. I also find dog-fighting disgusting and cowardly. And, of course, Portis' remarks were dumb. But, to be honest, I think the backlash against him was a little over the top.

Re: Portis Apologizes For Dog Fighting Comment
Did anyone notice the part in the article where Portis said he recently saw a woman caring for her dog in an airport.......it made him think of a commercial where people were weeping over a dying whale?
I think Portis thinks it super funny that his comments created such a fire-storm. If that's not a joke then I don't know what is. |

Portis has said exactly what I thought when he made the comments he did. He hadn't given much thought to what he was saying, nor had he taken into consideration the sensitivity of the issue. I too am a dog lover, and have been for a long, long time, and find no solace in watching them destroy one another. His comments seemed quite genuine, and I think he learned a lesson from that experience, and that's what's important. There's no way we can downplay the love many of us have for our pets, (dogs in particular) a love that has a long and storied history since the civilization of mankind. I just finally got around to reading the article about Vick's case in last week's SI and I found something rather interesting.
The next time some cowboys fan tries to give you crap about Portis' comments just remind them that back in 1991 that moron Nate "400lbs of weed" Newton was arrested while at a dogfight. It might not be much, but I always love having a retort for other teams' fans' comments.
