Almost, it was actually his dad who saw his father shoot his mom. The only reason why is father wasn't shot his because he was hiding under his bed (It was very similar to Sawyer's story in Lost, only in real life). The cover of Stranger Than Fiction was inspired by that event, it's creepy when you think about it:



Chuck's own father was obviously screwed up, and I'm sure that influenced his life. In fact, his father was eventually murdered by the ex-husband of a woman he seeing.

Like I said in my first post, he's my favorite writer so I've read up on him, basically through wikipedia and some of the stories in STF.
