That is pretty in that area.
I didn't know that was a riders paradise. I ride a lot from C-bad to Ruidoso, NM, and it's a nice scenic drive. (Ruidoso is a mountain town) It's about a 2.5 hour drive from here, but it's worth it.

On a side note, I just had a friend get in a horrific crash on his harley. He was not wearing a helmet and was clipped by a truck on his saddle bag. He is going to make it, but he had internal bleeding, brain bleeding, and needs plastic surgery to reconstruct his face. It happened when they were coming back from Austin. (I'm glad I didn't take them up on my invite cause we usually drive side by side when we ride together) I know it's addicting to not wear a helmet, but if you're doing long travel, you need to wear a helmet guys! I will only ride without a helmet if I plan to ride less than 35mph.

I would buy a big 'ol RV and drive all over the country. I have only been to the surrounding states of NC, Kansas City and DC. That's it. I need to get out more.

F*** driving, I have done more than my fair share of that. I am either flying or cruising on long trips.

Wow sorry to hear about your friend. Sounds like he's pretty lucky to be alive.
I used to ride without a helmet when I was younger. But I will not get on a bike with out one now.
A few years back my friend’s dad was out camping in the desert with his Family like they did ever year for the 4th. One afternoon he decided to take his little grandson for a ride around the camp site. He wasn't going more then 15 to 20 mph. Some how the bike tipped over and he hit his head on the hard dirt. His grandson wasn't scratched but he suffered severe brain damage and died a week later never regaining consciousness. If he had been wearing his helmet everyone would have been laughing about it. But he wasn’t,this was a guy that road motor cycles all his life so he knew how to ride. He was in his 50's so it's not like he was some senior citizen ridding around either.
I think it should be the rider’s choice unlike California. But you never know what might happen so why take the chance. It’s not that hard to wear a helmet.

First of all Prayers to your friend man! He's honestly very lucky to be alive.

Yea, it's some beautiful riden through those parts of SC. For myself I've been down on the road three times on varios Harleys. GOD WILLING I'M STILL KICKING! It's only FAITH and some LUCK there bro.

As far as the BRAIN BUCKET LAW I could care less I'm wearing mine PERIOD, at any speed. Even down there most don't but we have seen some GOD aweful accidents that were fatal, with and without LIDS, I agree with the right to choose. But me and my wife choose we are wearing.

Re: Where would you go?

I'm not trying to highjack this thread. But thinking about this brought back another memory. Back in H.S my friend and I were ridding are induros around when some idiot pulled out in front of us. Luckily for me I was behind him and was able to stop. He crashed into the car and flew over the hood. He shattered his foot on his handle bars a broke his arm. When he hit the road he slid for about 20 feet on his head and shoulder. Thank god he was wearing his helmet that day. The doctors had to pick the grains of fiberglass from his helmet out of his back. After looking at the helmet there is not a doubt in my mind if he hadn't had it on he would have died. The pathment had ground through about 6 layers of the fiberglass which would have been his skull if not for the helmet.

I just spend a week in the Caribbean. It was great for three days until the sun got to me and put me in bed for the next four. Next time, I'll go to Iceland. Florida's also, intolerable, as far as I'm concerned.

I hear Iceland is awesome. I'd love to go there for a vacation

See, that's what scares me. I ride around my house with no helmet (there is no law requiring helmets here), but I always felt that if I crashed at a low speed, it wouldn't hurt me. Well...wouldn't destroy my head anyway. But I keep hearing stories about people at low speeds getting killed...it's getting a little scary. It's a shame there are SOOOO many poor drivers out there that could care less about motorcycles and the safety of those riders.
I might need to wear a helmet at all times now.

Thanks man. We all know how lucky he is, they way my friends describe it, it was quite horrific. We're doing a biker rally next week to help raise funds for him.

Seems like there are a lot of riders on this site...it's a shame I don't live there so I could ride with you guys.
I have been riding 11 years and (knock on wood) not once have I gone down. While I feel I am a great rider, I'm sure it has more to do with luck.

Re: Where would you go?

OK, to get back to the subject here...I think I want to buy a place next to Kenny Chesney's place on St. Johns island and have big parties.
