schneed, i think in Pennsylvania, its the riders choice to wear or not to wear. and i don't think Pa. has any laws on the books regarding talking when driving. and yeah, i know Lavar was wearing his helmet. although I'm still trying to figure out how he got it on?

Re: LaVar Arrington In Motorcycle Accident

I'm on schneeds side with this. i consider myself a pretty good driver. but there are lots of times on the highway, when a motorcycle goes buzzing by me. the dangerous part is the majority of the time, i never saw them. just too small, on the big over sized highways

PS When I labeled riding the bike as "dumb" in my initial post, I meant it was especially dumb for Lavar because he needs his body to earn millions of dollars.

For Joe Schmoe, it's not nearly as dumb. Still a little dumb though, IMO.

I think more improtant its dumb because he now has children to raise and they need their father.

And the people that die in CAR wrecks, bicycle deaths or just walking down the street, that happen to be parents, are different for what reason?

It's sad that his career has fizzled out the way it has due to injury. I guess we'll never know what he could have become.

I agree that its sad LA's career has fizzled due to injury. I do however think we know exactly what he could have become because he was in the league long enough to become it. LA was a good LB that never lived up to his potential.

Probably, but then again the expectations he was tagged with coming out of college were pretty ridiculous and that wasn't his fault.

I agree, he was really hyped up and that's totally out of his control but he did have monster talent that I dont think he maximized. IMO his talent was so huge that he could always overcome mental mistakes or sort of ignore coaching (not really ignore but I cant think of the word I want) with this talent but in the NFL the talent gap is so thin he couldnt get away with that anymore.

Re: LaVar Arrington In Motorcycle Accident

I keep reading how people want to say he was stupid for riding a motorcycle. just because you think its stupid doesn't make it a fact, and because I dont doesn't make it a fact either. He wasn't under contract with any team, apparently was thinking of retiring, and accidents happen. Walking, running, riding a freaking mountain bike, anything can happen. I dont hear any news saying he was driving like an idiot, he wasn't drinking he just lost control. I think we are all getting away from the main point here, which is the well being of a former Redskin. I hope he heals up, luckily he didn't break his leg as was reported and maybe he can play football again. He is only 28, a year off, rehab like crazy, rest his knees and body and who knows what could happen. These guys are football players until the day they die, and if at all possible they will do anything and everything they can to suit it up one more year.

of course in my eyes, he is still a Redskin and I believe in his eyes as well. He was a Redskin park last week hanging out with his OLD teammates.

stu·pid (stū'pĭd, styū'-)
adj., -er, -est.
  1. Slow to learn or understand; obtuse.
  2. Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes.
  3. Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake.
  4. Dazed, stunned, or stupefied.
  5. Pointless; worthless: a stupid job.

No, but riding a specialized motor vehicle, whether it be a tractor trailer or a motorcycle, without the proper training, no matter who does it, I believe qualifies empirically as stupid as defined above, under either (2) or (3).

It was a poor decision and marked a lack of intelligence or care.

Gotta agree with that. I've been riding for over 10 years, but when I started riding, I made sure I took a lot of advice and followed the laws of the road and got a permit.
