NAACP delegates ‘bury’ N-word - Race & Ethnicity - MSNBC.com I think we're starting to see a lot of Americans avoiding the word altogether. The Michael Richards incident started the dialogue up again, and Imus took it to a whole new level. When Paul Mooney stopped saying it, I was in shock. Here's something that really convinced me on the issue way back in the day. This is when Pryor had visited Africa.... Sorry for Hi-jacking this thread... I'll behave from now on.

Re: The legacy of 'W'?
Here's the thing, and I swear I'm leaving it alone after this
![]() But if the mods are open to the idea, I think it's something that could be discussed/debated within a thread, but it would have to be a controlled environment. *For instance, only six people permitted to be allowed in the discussion at any given time. Maybe over the course of two consecutive days. *No four letter words allowed under no circumstances; Even if one is only expressing his/her views. *The thread would be locked to everyone else until the Mods opened it up to a new designated "group". Others are free to view, but not post as the forum is only open to those six men/woman during that time. The reason for this is so that you don't have any hit and run posters as to inflame an already sensitive topic. I have some more suggestions on how to open this debate/discussion up, but that's just a good safe place to start. That's just how 12th would do it...I'm just saying! |

Re: The legacy of 'W'?
I'm down... I think it should be open to everyone though, with fair warning before hand that any ignorant / inappropriate comments will result in 3 month ban (literally) and deletion of your post.
Plus I think Smoot wants to lay the smack down on someone... It's been a while since It's happened. If I were a mod, I'd be playing "The Final Countdown" on permanent loop before the thread just to get ready to dish out some action. Seriously though, I think everyone can benefit from hearing a wide range of thoughts / ideas in a semi-controlled environment. It'll be our farewell to the off season thread.

Re: The legacy of 'W'?
Okay, here's a shocker: I'm a little confused. What exactly would the debate/discussion be about?

Re: The legacy of 'W'?
"N" word and all...but those six people can only respond to one another within that thread. They can't pick up on something or respond to someone else in a previous thread. Remember they're debating with those specific individuals they're rolling with. I would have to lay it out from top to bottom, to be honest with you. But I think it could work and we could get something out of it. Also, the Mods would have to approve of who participates and who doesn't; This isn't a free for all. For instance, someone who has a consistent history of having, well, being argumentative may not be the best person to allow to discuss or debate on this particular topic. Not to say that people that get in heated discussions or debates shouldn't be allowed, but I think the Mods would say okay to some and, quite frankly, no to others.</p>

Re: The legacy of 'W'?
Good question. I think first of all someone who really wants to engage in this discussion and who isn't simply bored until the season starts. There are a few other criteria I would suggest in addition to the above.

I'm not against the discussion, which I think should be free for all. But, we'd have to be very careful and no "You all hate Michael Vick because he's Black" posts. Ultimately, this is Matty's call

Re: The legacy of 'W'?
I think to keep things orderly and on track, they're should be a theme for that thread or somewhat of a general topic. After we exhaust one theme or topic we move on to the next. i.e. Race and Athletes, i.e. The "N" Word. Race and Politics....or whatever.

I actually was halfway through a PM to Matty to ask him about it when I just thought it might be too much. I think the thread would start out very constructive, but would idle until someone went off the edge. Maybe have the thread open for 24 hours, see how it goes. Another option would be to start it in an independent forum outside of the warpath.
