Kinda cool to have such a big name in the sports management major.

This was brought up recently and it didn't seem like he was interested. I remember the Post had a story on him last year.

Although he was fired I think him and Snyder are on OK terms now.

Re: Casserly joins GMU staff.

he and turner didn't see eye to eye and one of them had to go. becauise of the timing Snyder had no choice but to let Cass go. Cass told him at the time "You are firing the wrong guy"

Guess he was right. Although it can be said that both needed to go.

The Post story reported that they have a good relationship.

Well... then the post is changing history, or they have kissed and made up..... Certainly everyone remembers the reports from when Danny go the team up until Casserley's leaving.

Casserly was horrible, some of the Skins biggest FA and draft blunders occurred on his watch. He road the coat tails of Beathard, and then when he was given the reigns he sucked both here and at the Texans.

Re: Casserly joins GMU staff.

As I recall - after firing Norv, Danny called Casserly to tell him that he [Snyder] should have kept Casserly instead of Norv.

This was in a Post story sometime back, I just couldn't find it.

The Dan Snyder You Don't Know - Sports (washingtonian.com)

Quote:
Snyder took over the Washington Redskins on July 14, 1999. He inherited Norv Turner as coach and Charley Casserly as general manager.

“They were fighting like cats and dogs,” he says. “We were in trouble. I couldn’t have these two guys sniping at one another.”

So he fired Casserly in September.

“You fired the wrong guy,” Casserly told him.

“If you’re right,” Snyder shot back, “you’ll be one of the first to know.”

Snyder also fired a bunch of longtime front-office workers. He brought in his own PR team, lead by Karl Swanson.

Hoping for a quick trip to the Super Bowl, he paid big money for aging stars Bruce Smith and Deion Sanders.

Snyder stuck with Norv Turner through the 1999 season, which was lackluster. With three games left in the 2000 season, the Redskins had a 7–6 record, and Snyder lost patience. He called Turner into his office at 11 am on December 4 and let him go.

“It was one of my worst moves,” he says. “It was plain stupid. I was a new owner pissed about losing.”

It was also the first move that showed fans and reporters Dan Snyder’s impatient side. In business, Snyder could replace a manager in the dead of night with a phone call. The Redskins were considered a public utility, and every move was blared in the media and dissected on sports-radio talk shows.

After Snyder fired Turner, he says, he called Casserly and said, “You were right.”

Thanks Smoot. I figured you'd be the one to find it.

I wonder if anyone ever confirmed the story with Casserly.

Re: Casserly joins GMU staff.

Well, I can tell you Casserley actually left us in good shape... if you remember, his last year he worked the deal that got us Champe Bailey in that year, and left us with the number 2 AND 3 pick of the following year. He also got us Brad Johnson who let us to one of the highest scoring teams in history.

Then Danny got his hands in all of that and drove Brad away for our boy Jeff George (aka cancer) and drove Champe away as soon and as fast as he could run.

I wonder how much they are paying him.

Re: Casserly joins GMU staff.

Wrong Wrong Wrong Casserly sucks. If you want evidence of this, just look at his picks and signings in Houston. He tried to piggy back off the sucess of Bobby Beathard but he doesn't have an eye for talent. I can't make it any more lucid than that.
