It looks like Jeff and tony would be the favorites.

Tony is in 4th position right now (I believe) and Gordon is so far in 1st that no one will catch him before the chase.
So that means, if I remember how the chase figures work out, that Gordon will start at 40 points ahead of Tony.

Under the new format, the standings leading up to the Chase don't matter nearly as much as number of wins.

What happens at the start of the Chase for the Nextel Cup (Sunday Sept. 16 LIVE from New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, NH. Coverage begins at 1p on ABC!) is that each of the top 12 drivers at that point will have 5,000 points. Then, for each win you are awarded an additional 10 points. So, if the race started today, Gordon and Jimmie Johnson would have 5,040 points (4 victories x 10 points) each at the top of the leaderboard, right behind them would be Stewart at 5,030. I call it the Kahne Affect (or is Effect?). Kasey Kahne barely squeaked into the Chase last year because he was so inconsistent despite the fact that he had a league high 5 Cup wins last year. Under this format, his victories are rewarded and he would have placed first going into the Chase.

Cool, thanks for the info, I didn't know that.
