I guess it comes down to whether or not he can perform at a high level w/out any off season work. Time will tell.

I don't care if Portis won't play pre-season. As long as he is 100% in week one, that is all that matters to me.

Re: Is Clinton Really Hurting?

It was quite interesting watching Portis in his latest interview on Redskins.com. Sensing reporters were searching for a weakness to exploit in reference to the injury that continues to keep him sidelined, Clinton just continued to laugh it off. I think they really wanted to ask him if he had purchased a copy of Jerome Bettis"s book.

After witnessing the episode with Clinton last preseason, I had a feeling he would find a convenient way to render it moot this year, and so far he's been very successful at it. I'm not convinced they're holding him out, I think he's holding himself out.

Re: Is Clinton Really Hurting?

I've been thinking about starting a thread like this myself.

Here's what I think happened in the offseason:

Portis goes to Gibbs and says man that was crap about me getting hurt in the preseason. I'm not playing in the preseason this year, I just won't do it.

Gibbs thinks about it, and thinks well I can force him, or we can just tell everyone he has tendinitis, which just so happens to be an injury that can take a long time to heal, or heal up real quick with rest.

And viola.

That's the conspiracy theorist in me at work. Whether or not that's true, whatever. He'll be 100% healthy by week 1, if he's not already, and that's all that matters.

I really think you're on to something here, and it hasn't gone unnoticed by the rest of the team. It further demonstrates one of the weaknesses in Gibbs coaching style. Guys look at this and say, "If Clinton can do it, then".........

You are on something man...speculation about Gibbs saying CP is injured when he is not sparks a "weakness of Gibbs coaching" comment?

Are you like 12 years old or something?
You must not have seen him take a very lame vanilla team for decades and made them into a near dynasty.

Gibbs is a master or personal relations...it is certainly not his weakness.
He may have others but....get a CLUE!

No, I'm just a little more than twelve dude, and I've probably been around a hell of a lot longer than you have. I've had the pleasure of witnessing all of Joe Gibbs acomplishments since he became involved in the HFL (not just the Redskins). Before you arive at unwarrented conclusions, my reference to Gibbs's weakness was more about his willingness to over protect his players, not about any disrespect for his ability. Stop kissing those three trophies he stands in front of and get with the here and now. That which is past and gone is just that, past. There's maybe a clue or two you could learn from.

Hey,
I'm not trying to start a fight or anything...but suggesting Gibbs is favoring players over a team is not accurate. You have your opinion and I have mine...Yes, I love those 3 trophies and you likely do too.
I bet you were as excited as me when he came back too. Yes, he hangs on players a long time but so do a lot of high quality coaches. This team is in desperate need of long term commitment, and thats what he offers...the problem is everyone wants him to yank players the second they have a bad game...Brunell...sure, I think he waited too long last year, but Campbell wouldn't have given the team a chance for a playoff run if he started a little earlier. Remember, it was Brunell that led the team to our first playoff run in years when odds were stacked against him. That should count for something (and it did)

I think Gibbs is a man of character and would not put a players interest before the team. That is where we differ I believe.

Re: Is Clinton Really Hurting?

On NFL Total Access last night they showed a shot of a few teams at practice and one of them was the redskins and what did they show? CP and the entire 1st Offense in helmets and shoulder pads doing a runthrough. CP will be rested and ready to go week 1.

Re: Is Clinton Really Hurting?

My personal theory on this is that CP and the coaches have agree to not play him in preseason, BUT he IS participating in practice (as it is now all closed practices) and that the team are doing a "Belichick" and giving out the impression he is hurt, when he isn't.
He'll be good to go against the Dolphins.

Re: Is Clinton Really Hurting?

look guys if he isn't even practicing you should be a little concern CP has had a history with injuries and maybe he isn't back from last season injury if he was practicing but didn't play games I would say they don't want to risk him.

Any news on Campbell?

You guys look great every pre-season. Then the regular season comes and its the same old thing: no running game.

BTW, how are your inaugural picks coming? Here's a tip: Take the Redskins to cover against Miami and get yourself a haircut on me.

hahaha, you keep showing up man, it lets me vent. why would we be concerned though?? he is not playing so he can avoid injury, not because he has one, any fool can see that. any fool(cowboy fan) can remember the ol' 8 car raping your secondary and if he can do it, so can campbell....ha is it freaking friday??? check you all in the morning, its hammar time.

oh and ps tendonitis is not an injury it is an excuse not to play preseason thats all.
