The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
What the hell...
Santana Moss? Too many drops, the game might not have been as close if he comes down with those catches. C'mon Santana, you've gotta make those catches. Chris Cooley? Other than the big catch at the end on 3rd down he was non-existent. I'm not positive on this but it seemed that the first pick by Campbell might have been due to Cooley not running a crisp route. Fred Smoot? You've gotta make that INT when it hits you in the hands like that. That would have ended the game right there. Randle El? 162 yards? Where was this guy last year? If he can keep playing this well and when Moss gets on track this passing game could be very dangerous. |

How about ,the Dolphins are going to go for the touchdown on fourth and goal on the two??? What the hell.
Or,The Redskins are going to kick the field goal on first down.....From fortey yards out???What the hell. I know that both of those decisions worked out but I was saying what the hell when they happened. |

Shawn Springs? How are you not starting, could you not find your helmet a la Thurman Thomas?
Brandon Lloyd? C'mon, make just one play. One play is all I ask You? Yeah that's right I'm talking about you. You insisted we were going to lose today. And you're a Skins fan. Where are you now? You know who you are

I don't think Lloyd timed his jump well and honestly it looked like a half-hearted effort.

Someone mentioned this in another thread,
But ST and Landry, where the hell where you guys? It seemed like you all were nowhere near the players. I guess this becomes more of a what the hell for GW.

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Why do the refs have to have a ten minute conversation about every flag that's not a false start? I mean, what the hell?

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Probably because they were playing in coverage and in the running game the d-line and LBs were cleaning up quickly before they could even get to the ball. It's a good thing when the safeties aren't making a ton of tackles.

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Oh yeah I missed one. What the hell was up with us getting that B.S false start on the exact same motion play that we drew the other team offsides in the preseason. That exact same shift was not a penalty in the pre-season so why is it a penalty now?

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Seriously... Lloyd's only real claim to fame other than his bitching is he can make the spectacular catch. Campbell tosses it up and gives him a chance to make a play, and he can't even keep it away from the defender.
And Portis? Tendonitis my ass. What the hell?! |

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Jason Campbell - When did you get all Robo-Arm on us??? from the 35 yard line to the endzone with a HIGH arc??? It didn't even look like he put everything into the throw. I get about 40 yards with a 5 yard run-up AND throwing a NFL JR ball.

We were discussing this in the "ugly thread" if you're interested. I would just explain for Deirdorf's sake if for no one else's that there is a difference between a shift and a motion. With formation shifts you can move multiple players but they have to reset before the snap and there are other protocols that have to be followed. Motion has to be one person and they can be moving at the snap of the ball but not towards the line of scrimmage. Etc. Etc. The refs are supposed to know this stuff by heart, yet they made a crappy explanation. Just say "illegal shift". And don't take 45 minutes to do it either. That just leads me to believe they didn't know what happened. Somebody throws a flag then they all get together and look at each other like they have no idea what's going on.
