Yeah, but they were probably the #1 or #2 defense in the playoffs. It was like watching a completely different team. Part of it was they got their safety back and I think part of it was Dungey sandbagging so there wouldn't be film on his schemes. He knew his offense could get him in the playoffs and then he let his defense loose. Big offense and no defense will take you part of the way. To go all the way you have to be good/near great in all three phases of the game.

That would be something to have the luxury to sandbag all the way through the season and not reveal your defensive schemes until the playoffs. I'm not sure that was the case as much as they were just focused more than ever after always being the team that can't get to the big show.

I could be niave, but i doubt he was 'sandbagging.' If nothing else, your first comment was dead on. Bob Sanders is a bad ass, and him not being a starter probably affected the plays they were calling.
