Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
It has long been my feeling that Carlos Rogers does not play the position with the mentality of an elite CB which he was drafted to be. You can ill afford to wiat four years for a CB drafted where he was to develop. Four yrs. at Auburn should have better prepared him to play the position.
I would like to see Carlos develop a better understanding of where the ball is when it's in the air, and where it relates to the receiver. Good CB's always know where the ball is when it's thrown in their direction, and not playing in a trail position. He needs to develop the mentality that when the ball is in the air in his area, "it his" He could also become a better open field tackler, he's missed two thus far this year that have led directly to TD's. He still has a ways to go to measure up to his lofty draft status.

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
I honestly don't see Rogers ever being a true shutdown #1 corner.
What bothers me about him is he continues to play the man and not the ball the majority of the time. That being said he's still a pretty decent corner, I think in order to label someone a bust it has to be proven that he can't play in this league at all, and he's far from a bust in my opinion. Has he lived up to the expectations of a player taken #9 overall? Clearly he has not. But he's still a player with some good skills and room to grow. Perhaps he'll prove us all wrong in time. |

He's good, but not great. He has good plays, but his errors can hurt you. Afer five years in the league, we will know who is right or wrong. J-Dawg

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
CR has def. improved this year. 2 missed tackles isn't something to be ashamed about. He isn't a horrible corner and he isn't a shutdown corner. He's just good. He makes his good plays and he makes his bad plays, and most cornerbacks do that. No he hasn't lived up to his high draft status yet but he's def. improved since last year. He does need to improve on some things though, like watching the ball instead of the receiver, but hopefully that will come with time.

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
I thought he has stepped up just fine. If we do need another CB it will be to add depth if Springs or Smooty goes down. We need to draft linemen on both sides on the ball and a WR in the high to mid rounds. I just add the WR since Lloyd sucks and Santana needs to get healthy and stay healthy. I am starting to think he might be injury prone not after too long. Randle El can't be our only decent WR. McCardell is nice, but past his prime, and Caldwell hasn't done anything to my knowledge thus far. Always liked Thrash, but he isn't a top 1-3 WR at all. I would go with a WR for anywhere from rounds 1-3 next year. But as for CB, I think we are tight as can be.

He does have some of the WORST ball skills I've ever seen from a CB though.. Terrible hands and always seems a half step slow breaking on the ball..

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
I think that Rogers is close to being a very good corner. He dropped a ton of INTs last year, which tells me that at least he was in position to make plays. I believe that his biggest problem is locating the ball when he makes a defensive play. That will improve over time. While I don't believe that he'll be a pro bowler, Rogers will be a competent CB in this league for years.

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
If he didn't drop those picks would this thread be up? So if he caught every ball thrown his way would he be a elite CB? If so he is a couple of hands adjusments from being a 1# CB

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
Even if he just caught half the balls that come his way he'd be a star.
I used to think Darrell Green had some iffy hands, DG dropped a ton of INTs in his time, but Carlos puts him to shame. |
