For a guy who ran such a sick 40 time pre-draft, and had all the teams salivating over his athleticism, doesn't Jones just look really slow on Sundays? The dude looks like he is running down the field wearing Timberlands. Berrian could be nice, depending on the price. I haven't watched him a whole lot this season, but is he a one trick pony? Deep ball or bust? It might be hard to tell given the QB problems in Chicago. Whatever, that's a conversation to have a couple of months from now I guess.

As for this Sunday, is it time for Gibbs to break out the film of the '87 Skins beating the Tony Dorsett led Cowboys with a bunch of replacement players? I'm not sad to see The Receiver out, but seriously what the hell!!! How many injuries can one team have?

IMO Johnson and Berrian are the best targets. Fitzgerald would require too hefty a price in a trade and I also agree on Jones, he just doesn't appear to give a crap that he is 6'6", 240, and runs a sub-4.4.....yet has only 9 catches on the season. Berrian would give us a legit deep threat with good size, 6'1" - 185 and Johnson is 6'3", 220 and appears to be a very solid receiver. Another UFA target would be DJ Hackett. He appears to have recovered well from his ankle injury, he's young with good size and has shown improvement each year.

I'm not sure about the potential salary cap ramifications of releasing Lloyd. But if I understand Canuck's cap sheets we will take about a $ 3M cap hit in 2008 by releasing Lloyd, hopefully we will have enough space to pursue at least a couple of the above WRs.

Yeah me either. I am guessing we would take a decent cap hit though. Only way I see us letting go of Llyod on the cheap is if Danny trades down in the draft for more picks and give our #1 or #2 away with Lloyd as sort of a freebie. I like Berrian, but Johnson is taller and appears would be more physical. Too bad about the situation with Lloyd or we could go for both. With Santana seeming to be out of commision for the year with regards to speedster status we really don't have a deep threat anymore. I wish Caldwell could get into more action. McCardell is a gamer and was a nice addition. I think Caldwell will be too once he gets in there.

The reason I think Caldwell can work out nicely is because NE's passing game bears a similarity to ours- route running and timing patterns are at a premium. He was Brady's leading receiver last year, and is still young. No reason he can't be a very solid contributor IMO.

But I really like Berrian and think he's coming into his own now. Another intriguing possibility could be Matt Jones out of Jacksonville. But I think the focus should be on Berrian this offseason (him and Justin Smith )

Maybe I'll start a "Five Offseason Moves I Want to See" thread
Smootsmack - any of these guys would be a great addition although I like Bryant Johnson. I know that we have no chance because of our salary cap but what about Andre' Davis of Houston - if we didn't blow our cap on Llyod what an addition Davis would have been.

Personally I think its a blessing in disguise. The drama is over, no more media questions about Lloyd for the team and coaches. He has never played up to his hype and I think it is a good thing. Im fine with it actually.

We've got a Jimmy Farris sighting!! Comcast Sports Nite just said it. He's at this point the only wide receiver the team is bringing in. Sigh....

Re: B. Lloyd Possibly Out For The Season

Well after 9 games 2 catches and 14 total yards, I don't think we will be missing much.

This is just the start of the end for the 100% TOTAL BUST!

Hope SM's foot bruise gets well quickly. They can bring up a squad WR and out produce what this BUM has done.

Honestly this may be considered as an upgrade.

LOL

Looks like I won't have to worry about him breaking that 600 yard mark I was talking about back in August!

What a turd. I hope his collarbone falls off.

Man and you don't even know the guy. You must be cruel to your enemies.

As for Lloyd... Whatever. I'm sorry the guy got injured like that and I do hope he makes a full recovery and goes on to excel with some other team.. but, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Hopefully we will finally be able to get Reche Caldwell in the mix, now that Lloyd is out of the picture.
