That's what bothers me the most; if he gets shot running around doing crap he knows better than to do, ehh, tough sh*t for him. But to be shot at your house during what is arguably becoming your best year as a professional football player with regards to conduct and ability. That's tragedy.
There was a doctor on the radio who was talking about this. The artery which was hit suplies blood to the lower half of his body. He is probably out of surgery and is in critical condition due to the loss of blood. The good news was that he made it to the hosptle and through surgery. Bad news is it could affect other organs in the body and he could lose a limb due to the loss of blood. The other good news was because he is in such good health it would help the body from all of the blood loss and also help in the healing. He also noted that he could have been taking medcine for his knee which could make the bleeding worse.

God Bless Sean Taylor and his family. He has a young child. Keep praying, that's all we can do to help.

This is what a doctor said and was the last post on the prior page so I thought I'd bump it back up.

I believe that the femoral nerve that runs beside the artery controls the upper leg motion down to the knee. If he survives, but has nerve damage there, we may be looking at a career ending injury.

Depending on the extent of the damage, whether the nerve was nicked or severed; this will determine the course of his physical rehabilitation. Still to early to determine that. At this point, he needs to make it out of surgery. From there, he'll need to get out of the surgical ICU. And so on...

If he was indeed shot in the femoral artery is it true to keep him alive they may need to amputate his leg?

No, only if the loss of blood to his leg was long enough. Not sure what they call this maybe gangreen (speeling) sets in they could have to amputate his leg but that could take several days to tell if that would or could be the case. They had a doc on the radio about this injury.

Amputation is generally predicated on the extent of the blunt trauma to the femoral artery, the amount of vascular reconstruction needed, whether associated vessels were injured, and whether his tibia was fractured by the bullet. If his injury incorporates many (or all) of these variables--then the rate of amputation increases.

ST was on the inactive list as of Saturday and was not going to be traveling with the team so why can't he go home for a couple of days? Especially over a Holiday weekend. It was probably someone who had watched the house and didn't expect anyone to be there.

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

Hopefully better news on this update from RI:

"UPDATE:
Just spoke with a friend of the family who said that Sean lost a substantial amount of blod and the bullet traveled near the femoral artery, which is located in the thigh. Sean's father, Pedro, the chief of police in Florida City, Florida, is with him at the hospital, according to the source. They believe the situation is stabalizing, and are obviously hoping for the best."

At least that's something positive in this horrible situation...

im suprised he has made it this long already, the fomoral artierie is one of the worst places to get hit. but its good hes in surgery for it, usually you just bleed out in minutes. The fact he made it to a hospital is a great sign.
