Forget the football aspect, this dude got shot in his own home; just like any of us could have been. There was a doctor on the radio who was talking about this.The artery which was hit suplies blood to the lower half of his body. He is probably out of surgery and is in critical condition due to the loss of blood. The good news was that he made it to the hosptle and through surgery. Bad news is it could affect other organs in the body and he could lose a limb due to the loss of blood. The other good news was because he is in such good health it would help the body from all of the blood loss and also help in the healing. He also noted that he could have been taking medcine for his knee which could make the bleeding worse.
