Skip Bayless better not hope I ever see him on fire in the street, cuz I won't even PISS in his punk-ass direction. I don't mean to clog up the already burdened works, but what the?!?! The body isn't even cold and all these people want to talk about is all the negatives in a young man's life, not the positives. Makes me sick

Re: What is wrong with ESPN??

I believe Scott Van Pelt is on with Tirico today...I caught part of it on my way back from lunch.

One has to remember that while this is tragic, it is more localized event than a national one. While it would be nice for complete 24 hour coverage, it's not a necessity.

For those not local and are interested in keeping up, I highly recommend going to Triple X ESPN Radio and SportsTalk 980, as they are the 2 DC Area sports radio stations, and both offer live streams of their programming. I'd imagine both stations are doing something for Sean Taylor...

Everything but HS has been on ESPN throughout the day, and probably online I imagine. But where is it on the official network of the NFL? Why no outrage over that?

Bottom line, if you don't like it don't watch. Parents just lost their child, a child just lost her father. And yet we all want to bitch about the media coverage. Fine, whatever.

I personally don't have a big problem with ESPN specifically as I do the media in general. When the story first broke yesterday, most media outlets led their coverage with the all the bad stuff. Certainly as the news of his death came out and the hours passed, the broadcasts have softened quite a bit. I understand they have an obligation to report the facts, but the emphasis on the bad over the good just irked the sh!t outta me. That was my issue. And you gotta admit, hearing Skip Bayless run his mouth about the negatives is maddening.

I don't have beef with ESPN; I couldn't live without that channel or their site. I do, however, have a serious problem with certain figures on ESPN and associated with certain other media outlets.

Heck so do I. But to paint such a large brush against all of ESPN and usually only ESPN is what gets to me. I know it shouldn't bother me, but it does. I'm sure you'd feel the same if every other week there were threads here about how all lawyers are money-hungry soulless scumbags. Granted, this isn't a message board about law firms.

People keep saying talk about the good person he is. Well ESPN has been, but the reality is that there was much more to him than just that. And it can't be nor should it be ignored. Problem is all people seem to be hearing is the negative.

I hear ya SS. But, given the gravity of the situation and how emotions are running high, I hope you can realize that people are being overly critical and sensitive about anything that is said about the guy.

As I said above, I love ESPN and we'd all be worse off without it. Moreover, his previous run-ins with the law are newsworthy. However, it is pretty disgusting to hear some people talk about Sean as though he had it coming and to give a lot of air time to his past problems which, so far, are totally unrelated to the tragedy at hand. It's akin to talking about how a woman likes to dress just after she was raped. Totally insensitive and indicative of a lack of timing if you ask me. Such comments are not limited to people at ESPN, I've heard them from people working for various news outlets. Such comments have not changed my opinion of ESPN or those other organizations, but they have changed my opinion of the people expressing them.

It's okay to mention the negatives. My big problem was with media outlets starting the story with all the negatives. Just seemed insensitive.

Personally, I think it's wrong to mention the negatives. The man was MURDERED and died YESTERDAY. There's a reason why you don't mention negatives when giving a eulogy: it's too soon. People are still mourning. I understand that ESPN is a news network, however, some things are more important than your business. IT'S TOO SOON.

Interesting take on this from Leonard Shapiro, he says ESPN botched the initial coverage
