Re: Who called the 2nd timeout?

Folks, there is NFW the Redskins are making the playoffs this year. Even if they had held on to beat the Bills by two points...the BILLS...there is NFW they will beat the Bears, Giants, Vikings, and Cowboys if they continue to play as poorly as they have done this season. They only have two convincing wins...the MNF game against the Eagles and the blowout of the Lions after the bye week. The Dolphins and Jets, two of the worst teams in the league, took the Redskins to OT, and the Redskins only beat the Cardinals because of a last-second FG attempt by the Cards that sailed just barely wide left. Sorry folks...I love the Redskins, and I always will...but they are at best a mediocre team right now. I'll be surprised if they actually win any more games this season...it's looking like 5-11 again this year, folks! |

Re: Who called the 2nd timeout?
I new here to this site but not to the 'Skins...
It seems that it is entirely fitting that a mental breakdown led to the loss...I'm amazed that the guys could all pull it together to even be out there today after losing a family member. 60 minutes played while remembering one of the defensive leaders...no TDs allowed. Well done under UNTHINKABLY HORRIBLE conditions. Fine with me and I thank them for their effort...there are MUCH bigger issues that most folks are considering. |

Re: Who called the 2nd timeout?
week in week out we play our guts out. what do we have to do to not let this happen? as a skins fan, and i'm sure i speak for many, you almost expect it on a weekly basis and that negativity is not cool. however, the only way to circumvent that thought from fans is up to this team and coaching staff. in a nutshell, shit's frustrating and depressing. I'll always love the skins and they've brought many smiles to my face but happen to let me down at the wrong times here as of late....how could we lose this game?????!!!!!!!

Re: Who called the 2nd timeout?
The 2nd timeout was a rookie mistake; it was not the kind of mistake a HoF coach should make. Did it cost us the game? Who knows, but it may have. Then again, the O-line was God awful. How many times did Portis have decent holes to hit? How many times did it appear that a blocking assignment was missed? How many times was JC hit? Moreover, the defense didn't break, but they bent enough to let our offensive struggles doom us.

Re: Who called the 2nd timeout?
Its never one thing that contributes to a loss. Jason Campbell is responsible for poor red zone decision making. The O-line is responsible for letting the Bills D manhandle them. The run D is responsible for us getting gashed on quite a few occasions. Greg's deep zone is responsible for failing to stop teams from getting into FG range. Gibbs time out for making it a chip shot field goal in bad weather. Anyone who could've made a good play, but didn't, is responsible to some degree.
This has been a rough week, and maybe us losing today is tribute enough to Taylor - a tribute that says we couldn't play our best because we couldn't get our minds focused to play well and we couldn't stop them without you playing at safety. I'm sorry for attacking anyone trying to absolve Gibbs (apologies, Smootsmack) for this week - I know many of us haven't yet recovered from Sean Taylor's loss and this isn't the time to trade attacks with disconsolate fans. Apologies again. That said, it's not wrong to point to a pattern of coaching ineptitude that has gone on for 4 years. Gibbs is not solely responsible for us losing today, but he did tie a pretty ribbon on the gift wrapped package we handed the Bills. I am today surer than I have ever been that Gibbs is not the answer to turn this team around. I can't, even for a moment, give Gibbs a free pass for another losing season and relate our losing woes to the loss of Sean Taylor. We have to hold people, starting with the Head Coach, accountable. |

Re: Who called the 2nd timeout?
SGG, you can respect what Gibbs did in the past and still admit he's done nothing in four years in DC. Being complacent saying a losing coach can stay as long as he wants simply isn't healthy for a franchise.

Re: Who called the 2nd timeout?
Gibbs II certainly hasn't worked out the way most of us thought it would. But why is it exactly that the Gibbs haters are so quick to dismiss the 2005 season? I've heard people dismiss the 2005 season because we played banged-up teams. But then those very same people dismiss our injuries as irrelevant excuses. So excuses are fine when they are used against us and are unacceptable when used for us? You can say Gibbs II isn't a success, but to say we have done nothing is simply wrong.

The frustrating thing is we've had the same problems year in and year out during Gibbs 2.0. Turnovers, clock mismanagement, big issues with fundamentals, allowing big plays on D, blowing leads in the 2nd half, etc, etc. I know we've had some bad luck with injuries, but when the all little things don't get any better week in and week out, year in and year out, it becomes maddening.

I am still convinced that our struggles in Gibbs II, and for the past decade, stem from the lack of a quality QB. JC looks promising, but his turnovers at inopportune times have been fatal to our season. I am convinced that as JC gets more experience, he will play better football and so will our team. And our future success will have a lot less to do with coaching than JC getting experience and securing the ball better. This season, the injuries just compound JC's inexperience. The right tackle ......gone. The right guard......gone. The #1 corner.....frequently banged up. The #2 corner......gone. Sean Taylor missed the past few weeks and teams exploited our inexperienced safeties. And now, Sean has passed away. That's the right side of the line and 3/4 of the secondary, not to mention injuries to guys like Griffin, Rabach, Smoot, Washington, Daniels, ARE, Moss, and less important guys like Thrash. I know people say, "the injury excuse gets old." I don't accept that kind of statement. Either they are tired of the injuries but accept the reality that having a large numbers of injured players really hurt our team OR they don't accept that injuries of this order really affect our play. |

Re: Who called the 2nd timeout?
It really only bothers me when people want to dismiss 2005 when those same people aren't quick to dimsiss our free agent moves in 2000 for example.
As for Gibbs, stupid mistake. He knows it, you know it, I know it. But I am not going to apologize for being a fan of his, and wanting him to stay as long as he wants to stay. In all honesty, he probably never should have come back in the first place. There's nothing he really could have done to improve his image with the fans. He had nowhere to go reputation wise but down. I believe we have the makings of a great QB who is going to lead us to great things long after Gibbs is gone. But no one will ever be appreciative of Gibbs for that.
