Couldn't have said it better myself! To me this rule of thumb applies to every NFL team! Heck all the top AFC teams (which I consider the better conference right now) use this approach of having a seperate GM than coach: The Patriots got Scott Pioli, Colts have Bill Polian, Pittsburgh has Kevin Colbert. I always thought the NFL was a copy cat league and when other teams want to have good consistent teams year after year like these 3 teams do, they would try and assimilate a front office structure in a similar pattern after these 3 teams.
