To be honest... I could see something like (let's say Joe Bugel leaves too... I mean come on, He is pretty old) Russ Grimm coming in and having the general oversight of the team, but concentrate his actual coaching on the offensive line.

I mean what kind of perks does HC really have? Why would GW want to change his situation. It's not like he's underpaid right now. It just seems like it would make a lot of sense to me.

Yeah I alluded to the "What does Williams have to gain" mentality in another thread.

That said though, I think it's more likely that he does want it and more likely that he gets it. Unless it's already established contractually beforehand that an assistant will ascend to the HC role within the same organization, the rules state that you have to interview (and don't forget the Rooney Rule).

It can be a charade of interviews while you know all along who your choice is, but it's better for the team to say "We haven't begun the process" than "We know we plan on selecting Williams but we'll just bs with some other candidates for a couple of weeks so no one thinks we didn't at least look."
