Comeback Player of the Year

Congratulations to Greg Ellis of the Cowboys, who overcame a devastating Achilles injury to win the award this year.

Other votes went to Randy Moss, who came back from not giving a crap; Ben Roethlisberger, who came back from motorcycle safety class; Brett Favre, who comes back every year; Jamal Lewis (who had an excellent season, plus he's done time - so no jokes at his expense); Patrick Kerney, who came back from injury - but, more imortantly, left Atlanta; and Andre Carter, who finally came back.

Does it not make sense that Todd Collins didn't get a vote? (Counts the negatives in that sentences to make sure it adds up.) Yeah, does it not make sense that Todd Collins didn't get a vote? He didn't start a game for ten years, and he helped pull his team into the playoffs with a four game run and a 100+ QB rating.

Re: Comeback Player of the Year

I was actually very surprised to see ellis get it. I thought if anyone would it would be moss or favre.

I don't think collins played long enough to really get recognition in those votes.

Don't you have to have been good at some point to be CBPOY? Not sure Collins was, or ever had the chance to really show he was until this year.

Ellis deserved it I think. I'd have given Portis a vote though

Re: Comeback Player of the Year

Randy Moss just had the greatest season in history of any WR in the NFL.
I am not sure what would be so terrible if he were recognized for it in any small way?
Regardless if you hate him for his past mistakes.
Yesterday Moss had only one reception, but he made several key blocks on running plays. He never complained or made a public display. He was a great team player yesterday. People change.

Re: Comeback Player of the Year

I think the difference is that most people believe that Randy Moss made the personal choice to slack off the past couple years. I don't know that that's necessarily true myself. Still, that's the perception.

Re: Comeback Player of the Year

Randy Moss was also in an offense that didn't suit him at all. Randy is the best deep threat in the game, and Oakland didn't run that type of offense. I would hate to have seen how bad Oakland would have been without Randy pulling double coverage.

I'm surprised no votes went to Portis...

seeing as he bounced back from an injury season where he rushed and received for career lows.. and such..

I agree it is perception. I mean Oakland is doing so much better this season with out him:cheeky-sm.

Re: Comeback Player of the Year

Im just saying, Randy publically said that he basically didnt give it his all because he was in oakland, what kind of a message does that send to his team mates. Sorry, but if your on new england and your still complaining than you shouldnt be playing this sport.. Name one player that has ever complained on the patriots since belichick and brady.

Re: Comeback Player of the Year

Players know that when they come to the patriots, regardless if they're playing or not, they will win games, and thats what keeps any player happy, just look at TO.

Re: Comeback Player of the Year

I think Collins was good, but he never was very good in the first place. Maybe a come-out player of the season.

Re: Comeback Player of the Year

I don't know about comeback player of the year, but Shaun Alexander and Larry Johnson certainly get my vote for comedown players of the year.
