Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Happened to be his best season. Biggest problem, in my opinion, about the WCO for Campbell is that it tends to negate his powerful arm

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Why Can't we just leave the effin offense alone and see how it can mature before we throw it under the bus again. I cannot stand another year of offensive woes due to a new system.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
I don't mind Fassel so much if Grilliams is appointed HC with him as OC.
That would actually make all the secrecy understandable since they would be telling Al Saunders that he'd be getting canned soon if they let it known that they were only interviewing Offensive coaches.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
I really hope that Cerrato and Snyder learned something from Gibbs... Saunders and Williams for atleast 1 more year. To do anything otherwise is extremely self defeating and as angryssg said "throwing it under the bus again."
Williams and Saunders for 1 more year!!! PLEASE!!!

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Please not Jim Fassell. He did have a SB trip w/ the Gmen but from my memory he had alot of mediocre Giants teams w/ average qb's. They were kind of like us at the time. They were going to make stupid mistakes, probably not alot of offense, and average/below average qb play.
That sounds like a coach i'd like to have!! I'll be really upset if this works out. My pick of course is GW, but i'd rather have Schwartz than Fassell, come on Snyder...this is getting stupid quick. |

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Well i say if they do not keep Saunders, we might as well look for another qb also. mostly cuz this will be like the 8th different offense for Campbell in the last 9 yrs. of course Jason is gonna have problems.. WE NEED TO STAY AS WE ARE FOR OFFENSE.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
If Dan Snyder hires him he will lose a fan base and it will be marked as the stupidest move ever made.
No kidding, JLC Fassel Is The Mystery Guy We will have a new story up on Washingtonpost.com in a minute. According to numerous sources Fassel was the guy who interviewed Friday Jan. 11 and he also interviewed yesterday. He has emerged as a leading candidate, with owner Daniel Snyder choosing between him or Gregg Williams for the job, likely this week.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Looking over Fassel's record, I see only one above average year. 2000, he went 12-4. (He went 10-5-1 once, and 10-6. Both times losing first-round Wild Card games.)
He was 25-33 at Utah. There's a reason he hasn't been a head coach since 2003. Think of all the coaching vacancies since then...and he hasn't received a sniff from anyone, outside of Synder. If not Gregg Williams, then pick an up-and-coming assistant. Fassel ain't the guy. The players are firmly on Greggy's side. Any other choice is a signal that the next few years will be about rebuilding a new identity. Continuity will be destroyed. Just my humble opinion. |

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
I'm just saying we might (and I'm completely speculating here) see some more elements of it seeing as to how Campbell was most successful playing under that system.
Four years ago, I would have easily said Fassel (of course that was before any of us had any idea about Gibbs). Now I'm not as sure. I think he's a very underrated head coach and has done some really good things as a coordinator, but a.) I really hope he's not a stopgap measure until Snyder gets the guy he wants (Cowher in 2009) and b.) well there is no b, just something about it doesn't feel quite right.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Fassel is too conservative. I thought he ran a boring system in New York and in Baltimore. He had sucess w/ the Giants but that was ages ago.
Leave it all alone and bring Al Saunders back. Why is that so hard for Snyder to see and do. 3 years under the same scheme with two very good QBs and a healthy offensive line with Portis and our guys we make a title run. He's going to fuck this up! Sorry just my opinion......

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Fassel's Record:
Fassel began his career with Assistant coaching stints with Utah State Univ. and Stanford Univ. Working with John Elway at Stanford. Also HC at Utah State. Long record of Offensive success, tutored Phil Sims and John Elway. Assistant with AZ, DEN, NYG, and Oakland. During Fassel's time as HC at NYG, his teams were known for numerous post-season runs in December, and for winning big games, such as the previously unbeaten Den. in 1998. 1997 NFL coach of the year, he resurected the career of K. Collins, and received acclaim for his "playoff guarantee" during the 2000 season, in which he led the NYG to an improbable SB appearance. However, his legacy as HC is mixed, Fassel's Giants were known for their disapointments against inferior teams during the regular season, as well as in the POs. The most notable loss was a shocking 39-38 loss to the 49ers in the '02 postseason, in which they blew a 38-14 third Quarter lead. During the '03 season, injuries decimated the NYG, and he was fired amidst some controversy. Before the 2003 season, Fassel, and his wife Kitty, were reunited with their son, John Mathieson, who they had given up for addoption in 1969. The couple was unmarried when he was born. Critics of Fassel have pointed out his lack of success in two seasons with the B-More Ravens. The Ravens had been near the bottom of the league in offense for both the '04 & '05 seasons. On Oct. 17, 2006, it was announced that Fassel was fired from his Ravens OC post. In '04, and '05, Jim & Kitty Fassel owned a Quizno's restaurant in Denville NJ, their son Brian was in charge of day-to-day operations. The store was sold in April '05, but still remains open. While coaching the NYG, Fassel and his wife resided in Ho-Ho-Kus NJ. Fassel current serves as as color coordinator on NFL Westwood One broadcasts. 1997- 10-5-1 1'st in NFCE. Lost to Vikes in 1'st rd. POs 1998- 8-8 3'rd in NFCE 1999- 7-9, 3'rd in NFCE 2000- 12-4, 1'st in NFCE, Lost to B-More in SB 2001- 7-9, 3'rd in NFCE 2002- 10-6, 2'nd in NFCE, Lost to SF in Wild Card 1'st round 2003- 4-14, 4'th in NFCE, Total: 58-53 as a HC Meanwhile, GW went 17-31 in Buffalo.
