http://www.redskinswarpath.com/locke...ebuilding.html

#3 - Can we please keep Jason Campbell in the same offensive system? Note that every time the team has gone with a new system, the year after the change resulted in 5-11 season (2004) and a 6-10 season (2006). After being in a system for a year, the team went to the playoffs in each subsequent season.

#4 - Getting rid of Gregg will mean you lose Saunders, Jerry Gray, and possibly Joe Bugel. I can't seen any scenario in which the new staff is comprised of better coaching minds than the one we've got right now. It's not all about the head coaches, it's about the assistants too.

#5 - Gregg felt the loss of Sean Taylor just as much as anyone on the team. He'll be in a position to relate to the players on a personal level. Chemistry between coaches and players cannot possibly be any better than with GW.

I mean, how Gregg Williams handled things on defense after Rogers went down, after Sean Taylor was slain, how the defense regained it's swagger should count for something. That's what I meant by how much of this has influenced Snyder's decision.

Should Gregg Williams be strongly considered for the job for sentimental reasons? You're damn skippy he should! That's exactly what I'm saying. Does he deserve it, you're damn skippy! Hey, if Joe Gibbs was allowed to buy some time during his second stint, I think Gregg Williams should get somewhat similiar treatment. Not to the same extent as Gibbs maybe, but yeah, Snyder should make a heart decision here.

Oh, the whole continuity thing? Yeah, I would start there too...but why do you need five good reasons to hire someone new, when the guys who will suit up on Sundays prefer the one who's already in the house?

Agreed. After the loss of ST, Gregg felt the pain more than anyone else. He and the team went through that together. They're in the process of building something that they can dedicate to ST's memory.

This is not an entirely cerebral decision, because football is not an entirely cerebral game. It's a passionate game.

Though I'd note from a cerebral standpoint it makes no sense either.

It’s just a thought but does anyone think Snyder is actually pissed at Gibbs for leaving so he wants’ to snub all the coaches Gibbs had brought in for the Coaching job?
In other words would Danny boy really cut of his nose to spite his face?

If so Synder is a horrible person. Gibbs had perfectly good reasons for leaving, not because he had lost love for the game but for the fact that family comes first. I would really hope that Synder is a better guy than to screw over the entire organization over a man retiring. That's some petty shit.

I absolutely feel Snyder feels betrayed or even a a little let down over Gibbs' departure. Pissed? Dunno know about that one.

I can't say he's actually rubbing it in, but I do think his emotions on this are misplaced. Just my opinion.

It continues to amaze me the conviction people have (not pointing to you Irish) about Grilliams being the sure deal to make us a long term winner. Last I checked, he was one of the coaching 'leaders' on a team that went 5-11 in 2006. If Gibbs stepped down after last year there would be about 1/3 of the support for GW.. The herd mentality that some people have is baffling to me..

I challenge anyone to give 5 reasons EXCLUDING CONTINUITY (because we don't know what Williams plans truly would be) that he would be the sure fire lock for the best choice. I'll even spot you #1.

#1-The players, Gibbs and other coaches support and endorse him..
#2-
#3-
#4-
#5-

#1
#2 He's one of the most organized coaches by all coaches/players account that anyone has seen
#3 He's a leader... listen to him talk and tell me he's not..
#4 He can get the most out of mediocre talent- Exhibit A..our D for the last 4 years-well 3 out of the 4
#5 His game preparation and adjustments are second to none imo
#6 He's fairly young and can give us many good years

That's 6, i can come up w/ some more...?

One mans trash is another mans treasure. Probably a large contributor to Daniel Snyders success. Unfortunately this philosophy hasn't translated well for him in the NFL.

That being said, I'm willing to see what Fassel has to offer. I am not ready to say that he is a worse choice than Gregg Williams. This was an over-emotional year in a lot of respects, and I appreciate the fact that Snyder didn't pull the trigger too quick and name GW the head coach simply for continuity purposes and the fact that some players thought he would be the best choice as Gibbs successor. I'd rather he take the time, listen to those smart guys on the payroll who have "influence" on the matter, and make the decision that best suits the team for the long run. If that means sacrificing some "continuity" then so be it. I'd rather go through some more growing pains for the short term and get it right, than go with the "popular" choice for the sake of continuity.

Just to be clear on where I stand on this one.

I don't want Fassel at all.

Not as a head coach,

Not as coordinator,

Not as the guy who's going to take JC to the "next level".

Not as the next "whomever".

I don't care....don't want the guy - at all!

No, he wouldn't, I don't think that is the case at all. First of all, that wouldn't be smart business, and 'ole Danny boy didn't get to where he is by making off the cuff decisions like that. Second, what makes you think that Gibbs would choose GW as his successor. I've never heard him endorse GW with respect to the head coaching position. Maybe his advice to Daniel Snyder is just the opposite...

I highly doubt it. Danny is a smart man(look at all the money he made), and no one would spend weeks, expensive flights, etc. with a predetermined notion of firing GW to spite Gibbs lol.

If so Danny would have cut GW right away. I can't believe we are reaching at straws here now.

Do we even know how much of this was done with the help of Gibbs?

You mean like Cam Cameron, Lane Kiffen, Bobby Petrino, Eric Mangini (I'll give you that the jury is still out on him), Mike Nolan, Scott Linehan? (or how about Steve Spurrier)?

Not every coodinator w/ good press works out - and like QB's, there is a lot of luck involved. Tomlin and Payton are the exception, not the rule.

Just 'cause someone is an up and comer doesn't mean they're good.
