Fair point I suppose. But what about those who have had coaching chances and suceeded with their second head coaching opportunity? And if people were so adamant about giving Williams the head coaching job, why isn't he considered a "retread"

It's not coaches, it personnel that wins in this league. I don't see anyone getting more out of our defensive personnel than Greg Williams did. Blache will come close. I don't see
any value added in Spaggs. At this point I prefer another offensive mind. I'll take Fossil and get on with it already.

What's wrong with a defensive minded coach? Del Rio, Crennel, Dungy, Belichick, Tomlin, Fisher, Lovie Smith, Wade Phillips (I'll throw him in) are no slouches.

I think because of Blache. If not, then sure Meeks or Spags would be a good choice. But then you'd have a rookie HC and a rookie OC (Zorn)

I don't think Blache would mind, wasn't he about to retire? I would rather have a hungry rookie HC and OC than Fassel as HC.

Spag is a good DC but he had a ferocious D-line this season to help him out, he will be a good HC in the future but I dont think he is ready just yet.

Fine. We're just going to go in circles about this. I think of the four known choices remaining Fassel is the best fit for this team and I think there are enough examples in recent (last two) years, coupled with Fassel's experience and succcess, that say Fassel can do very well as our head coach.

But I understand that he's the anti-flavor of the month

I think you are being a little unfair. Sure there is plenty to suggest Fassel is a good candidate, but the concerns about hiring a retread coach I think are valid. You may not buy into it, but others aren't convincing themselves of this because Fassel isn't popular. Id argue that Fassel isn't popular because of these concerns. I also think it is legitimate that some are excited at the prospect of a young, vibrant, though unproven, coach. The next HOF coach has to come from somewhere right?

Anyways, I happen to agree that Fassel seems to be the most logical choice because of the strength of his resume and the fact that the coaching staff was seemingly assembled around him. If, however, DS and VC hadn't backed themselves into that corner I'd be more inclined to give a younger prospect a shot. Like most others I thought GW was the best choice, but he apparently didn't see eye to eye with DS so he's gone. Now I feel Fassel will be the best choice, but I am anything but excited about him. I hope that the plan is to bring along Olivadotti to be the future HC; that sounds like a winning formula. A guy brought up in house can have a clear understanding of the team, and a clear vision of what it will take to be successful in the long run.

Anyways I hope that they eventually explain to us WTF went on throughout this process. They have left alot of questions unanswered thus far, and though Im sure it will lack much substance, I think we deserve some clarification.

I don't think you'll hear much more than what Snyder said the other day. They were going through a process, Spagnuolo was on their list of coaches they wanted to interview right from the start and because of the SB they obviously couldn't wrap everything up until after the game.

If Spagnuolo wasn't in the SB they probably would have made a decision already. They didn't want to cross Spagnuolo off the list simply because they had to wait another week to interview him.

I know some people want to believe there was something much more sinister at work, but I really think the answer is that simple.

Why not GW?

Why hire coordinators before head coach?
