What does the Zorn hiring mean for Todd Collins?

They both seem like they would piss and moan if they didn't get to be the starter. And with Simms, you'd have his old man pissing and moaning in harmony.

I believe Campbell is the guy. We need a backup that is willing to accept his fate. Sort of the way Mark Brunell was this last year.

There's really not a whole lot of reason to think Simms is capable of playing QB in the NFL. He was pretty mediocre in 2005, and hasn't been healthy since. I wouldn't go there.

Plummer is pretty awful too. I would rather try to re-sign Brunell, or spend 1 million a year on Billy Volek.

Is he still with TB? I like some of the things I've seen from him, espically the game he played against us in TB back in 05. He was also having health issues but I thought he had some promise. If could be close to being as good as his day then............

Why do the Skins never have talent they developed at key back-up positions like QB. Instead if Collins leaves they have to scrape around the bottom of the barrel for one of the most important positions on the team.

Not sure I'd describe QB as a "key-backup position". I mean, yeah if your starter gets hurt, you need a guy who can throw the ball and hold the fort down from a few weeks. But outside of injury, the backup is never going to play for a team that has it's franchise QB.

Developing a backup is not something all teams (or most) are lucky enough to do, because it's a relatively low cost, low success proposition. Teams like Jacksonville and Atlanta have been successful, but there are many more teams who have tried just as hard and failed.

Veteran backups are the surest thing.

Its important. If the Skins hadnt had a quality back-up last season I dont think they would have been in the playoffs.

That's true. If Hollenbach had been the no. 2, we likely would have missed the playoffs.

With that said, what's stopping us from signing the next Todd Collins?

Hollenbach, heck if Campbell had been the backup they wouldnt have made the playoffs. I hope the Skins do find the next Todd Collins because they are going to need him.

Our QB depth last year probably saved the season. So I wouldn't say we never have quality depth there.

Its never depth that the Skins develop. Thank God for TC last year because if Campbell had finished the year I doubt the Skins would have had 6 wins.

Because now the Skins are in a postition if TC leaves that they are basicaly stuck having to troll the bottom for someone that might be able to play.

I went through this with somebody once before. Basically, over the past we have drafted young arms at a ratio roughly the league wide average. Hitting on the QB position is truly difficult. Getting a starter is hard enough, drafting a young back-up, though optimal, is pretty damn hard. The few teams that do it, will trade the youngster before losing him to FA in this QB poor league (a' la Matt Shaub or Patrick Ramsey :p ).

How many teams have a young starter AND a young develepmental starter? Off the top of my head, I can't think of anybody. Seriously - who is Eli's back up? Lorenzon (a UFA), would you want him? Rivers? Rothlsesberger? Palmer? Hasselback?

We have drafted QB's to be the back-up or next young guy, that none have panned out is not uncommon.
