Well the 4-string has 2 less strings than the 6-string, and 1 less than the 5-string. The 5-string has 1 more than the 4-string and 1 less than the 6-string. The 6-string has 2 more than the 4-string and 1 more than the 5-string.

Even more interesting, the 4-string has half as many strings as the 8-string, twice as many as the 2-string.
