Why would you erase your hard drive with a demagnetizer? Just blow away the partition and reinstall your OS. Unless you're going to have government officials analyzing your computer's hard drive, the chances of someone else retrieving your old files would be slim to none.

I was asking for a guy at work, his sons computer has a lot of junk and viriuses and he asked me if he could just de-mag his hard drive, or would he loose the OS? I didn't know what would happen so I posted it on here. I talked to him today and he said that he is just going to re-format the hard drive and re-install everything...
