Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
ESPN - Campbell to start at QB, Collins to be backup - NFL
Looks like J.C. is the hands down starter. How do you feel about that? |

Re: Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
It's a no brainer. However it wouldn't have been if Gibbs had stayed around.

Re: Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
i agree Gibbs would have had it up for grabs, but it would have been under Saunders system of course it would have been open comp.

Re: Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
Campbell is a first round pick going into his fourth year. He better be the starter. This is also around the time where he should start living up to his potential and being able to win games at the end when he needs to.

Re: Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
Jason Campbell should be the starter, Zorn is making the right decision. I'm still not sold on Collins as the backup, but I think he earned the backup spot at the end of last season.

Re: Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
Collins to be backup.....? A little early to predict that, he isn't even signed. I think it's to be determined who the #2 & #3 QB's will be at this point, or anyones guess.
JLC blog: Posted at 2:58 PM ET, 02/22/2008 Zorn on Todd Collins As told to Maske at the Combine: "Todd Collins is a free agent. He's a guy that I'm concerned about, that we try to nail down if we can. ... because he's a veteran [and] because he proved to himself, he proved to the football team that it can be confident in him if he has to go in and play. I think he'll be good for Jason. Again, it's a veteran instructing a younger guy when I'm not in the room. I just think that he has a sense of rhythm and he has the sense of timing that it takes to run plays and get the ball out. He's learned different systems. He hasn't always been in one system. He'll only have to learn some of the facets of it." Zorn said he has spoken to Collins. "He's got to make sure he does his due diligence, too. He is a free agent. I'm not concerned about that. He's going to do what's best for himself, his family. I'm hoping that he would do what's best for the Washington Redskins. That will be something that he has to figure out for himself, and then hopefully we can put it together." Zorn said Campbell would be the clear starter. "There's competition. I don't think that Todd should come in here feeling like, 'I'm never going to play. Woe is me.' He'd better come in thinking that he's got to get himself ready. He's got to push Jason and take over if he can. And then Jason has got to think to himself, 'I'm the guy. This is my team. I'm not looking back.' "

Re: Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
Not having to look over his shoulder during training camp will help Campbell's mental state. He'll be able to exude the confidence he'll need to learn how to win games late (instead of throwing them away with INT's).

Re: Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
Jason should be the unquestioned starter. TC had a nice run but we've got to continue developing JC.
I hope Collins comes back; I think he's a great insurance policy to have. |

Re: Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
the suggestion of a controversy was ridiculous from day one. like steveo395 said, he is a 1st round pick in his fourth year. so what if collins played well and won a few games while jason was hurt? that's what a back up qb is supposed to do!
the fact that collins played well is reason to bring him back for another year to COMPETE for a job as a BACK UP. that. is. all. |

Anyone here think JC was about to do that? I think sitting down and seeing the team win without him was a great wakeup call! Time to start winning son.

Re: Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
I see this said all the time about not having to look over his shoulder. If his ego or confidence is that weak then he will not make it in the NFL.

Re: Zorn Shines The Light On QB Situation
No question JC is the man. TC was good for a little but he isnt good or young enough to be a realistic nfl starter.
