I guess that's how Clinton survived all of his lies, crimes and infidelities and is even getting a second chance through his wife...he already had a track record of it when we elected him the FIRST time, so we just said "that's Bill being Bill."

But again sex is not illegal. Clinton's blow job may have offended you, but the majority of this country saw it as nothing more than a political based attack.(thus his 90% plus approval rating)

And you can try to twist my words on what I said about morality, but I stand by the fact that the GOP plays the morality card to appeal to the Christan conservatives, but usually these "morals" are more about fear and hate. Bush basically won in 2004 on the "issue" of gay marriage.

Paying for sex and paying for the transportation of prostitutes across state lines IS a crime - what the hell part of that can't you grasp?

All this putting crime in quotes and differentiating between a "major crime" and apparently a "minor crime" is absolutely inane.

Apparently we're going to just leave it up to Hijinx to determine for us, on a case-by-case basis what constitutes a "major crime" and what doesn't. What a crazy idea to either enforce the laws on the books, or if you don't like the law push for new legislation. It makes a lot more sense to just decide which ones we think are worthwhile and ignore the rest.

The governor broke the law, plain and simple and he ought to pay the consequences like everyone else. Technically his resignation was completely voluntary, so no one forced him out or took his job from him.

It would be damn near impossible to effectively run the state and at the same time be tried for Federal crimes. It's in the best interest of the state that he resign and turn over the reigns to someone who won't be distracted by the legal mess that's sure to ensue.

It was the Massachussets Supreme Court that made homosexual marriage an issue, not George Bush and not Christians. To the extent they were overzealous, well, that's their problem. It is the political left that seeks to change the status quo and so they are equally guilty of pushing a "morality" on others. All laws represent someone's conception of morality. The idea that you can't or shouldn't "legislate morality" is nonsense. You can't legislate anything else.

Actually, the Republican-led Congress made gay marriage a big, national issue when it passed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. The MA Supreme Court didn't issue it's ruling until 2004.

I agree that nearly all law is based on society's morals. But, IMO, the modern day right is pretty well known for pushing certain values (i.e., Christian values) to the exclusion of others. In that regard, the right has lost its way and has strayed too far from its "small government" roots.

There is certainly a lot the Republican party needs to improve on, and hopefully-should he get elected-McCain will return some to the "government is not the solution, government is the problem" mantra.

The fact that many Republicans don't seem to care for McCain is, I think, actually a positive sign for the GOP.

Still, to imply that all Republicans (myself included) are extreme right wing, homophobic, xenophobic, minority bashing amoral gun nuts-as some here seem to do-is rather ignorant.

We're not?? Damn, now what do I do with my petition to stop any and all minorities, homosexuals, and foreigners from practicing un-american activities by permitting christians the right to shoot them on sight??

I know you weren't specifically addressing me, but I want to make clear that I certainly don't believe that right-wingers are homophobic, xenophobic, etc.

I hope no one thought I was addressing you. As a fellow Republican (moderate republican) who's a minority I know how you roll.

If I'm correct the reason that the Congress passed the law is because Judges where in effect making laws by overturning laws based off their view of weather it was right or wrong. I could be off on this but thats how I remember this happening.

I completely agree with you on the latter point, but with respect to the former point, how is any other group of people any different?

What it boils down to is that everyone is pushing for their own sense of morality to be installed and defended by the government, whether you're a right-wing Christian or a left-wing homosexual.

In the end, the majority will rule. If the majority elects leaders that enact laws they want and generally do the will of the people, tough shit for the minority.

Exactly. A majority of Americans oppose homosexual marriage which is why the left cries bigotry when the issue is mentioned. When the majority is on their side it's full steam ahead. When it's not, accuse the other side of being evil.

I might pay $4300 to sleep with the Princess of Wales the night before her wedding, but other than that... maybe the Queen of Jordan. Those Hashemites have impeccable taste. But, for the women in those pictures? You can pick that up at the pool hall in Centreville.

That might be the single most common sense thing I've read here in a while.

Hijinx buddy, I know that you think that people are piling on here but really.... Clinton never had a 90% approval rating. In fact, until Bush HE had the worst approval rating ever of any president.

I know that we talk about kool-aide and how good it tastes, but lay-off the blueberry dude. Don't let your politics blind you.

I must say that I have really enjoyed this thread. And as a male, I do apologize to the ladies of this forum who have been made to feel a bit ambushed and insulted by others of this thread.

i would like to see as link that says this. Bill Clinton enjoyed one of the highest approval ratings of any modern day president . while it did drop during the Lewinski fiasco, it would have had to drop off the face of the earth to reach Bush's plateau. im not sure if there has ever been a more hated president then the one that resides in Washington right now
