I have always hated when players whine to get thier way, doesn't matter who it is. You signed a contract, and a lucrative one at that...be a man and honor it.

Yeah, he has a big mouth, but not showing up for VOLUNTARY workouts isn't a violation of his contract. I don't doubt he's sending a message (yet ANOTHER one) to the Bengals, but he's not dishonoring his contract by not being there.

Bengals players have come out and said they're not worried about Chad because they know his work ethic. Dude hasn't missed a start in 4 years and has 5 straight seasons of 87+ catches, 1200+ yards and at least 7TDs. Unreal. He's durable and explosive, and wants to win. He just has diarrhea of the mouth.

I didn't mean to imply that he wasn't honoring the contract by missing the workout. I meant to say, just shut up and play for the bengals. They already know he wants to be traded, and they came out and said no. Now he should shut up.

Why should he 'just shut up and play'? Doesn't he have the right, regardless of his contract numbers, to state that he's unhappy with his employer? Unlike 'normal' people he doesn't have the ability to simply seek a job with one of his competitors by quitting and walking down the street to work for one of them.

I am not a blanket defender of using the media to push your agenda, for example I ripped Laverneus Coles for his constant griping about his contracts but this is a different scenario. Johnson simply wants to play for another team. He didn't ask for more money or a longer deal, he wants out.

Sorry but the whole 'just shut up and play' mentality bothers me.

i had to respond. first, he has every "right" to voice his displeasure. but as long as he is under contract, show up. they are called voluntary, be we all know the reality. secondly, no he cant just pick up, walk down the street and work for a competitor. but i also cant make the millions that he makes. he has FAR from a normal job. i guarantee everyone on his board would love to have the chance at that kind of money. not trying to argue, just disagreeing

Voluntary means voluntary, regardless of contract status.

The argument of 'they make millions and I don't' doesn't hold water, it's hypocritical at best. It's a double standard and an easy cop out of a logical stance.

So in your mind, it's OK to ask for a trade on SEVERAL occasions, and on SEVERAL occasions be told "NO", and then still go around and act like a baby?
I am OK with him wanting out, what I am not OK with is that his team said no way, you have a contract, on several occasions, and he is still acting like a baby.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm endorsing that behavior, but I'm not strongly condemning it either. During Super Bowl week he was very vocal about not wanting to be a Bengal next year. At the Pro Bowl, he said 'I'm not talking about it anymore, I said my piece.' When he's been on his promo tour for Degree he keeps getting asked about it and repeating, 'I've already said what I wanted to say, so let's move on.'

If you saw the NFL Network interview, he said that no less than 7-8 times and Eisen, Woodson and Dukes kept pressing him for him to say something. Same thing on NFL Live, he gets asked the same questions repeatedly, and he gives the same answer or finally says, yes I want out.

It's not a TO situation where he and Rosenhaus are calling press conferences in his driveway. He's not continuing to just randomly make noise about it, but if asked he answers honestly. What's the issue with that?

To piggyback on your comment, when he first got the contract, he talked about how happy he was to be a Bengal and that he'd "never forget what the Bengals did for" him. Now, he wants out. Give me a break!

Well teams have a way of getting out of deals when its in their best interest. So that goes both ways.

Please give me an example.
For instance, if Portis sucked last year, we could not dissolve his contract, he will still get paid. He can be released, but he will still be paid, sure not the entire contract, but a significant chunk. These are not ways of getting out of contracts, these things are written IN THE CONTRACT. So please give me an example of how a team can "get out of a deal".
