I thought it was very disrespectful to boo the President. Seriously. I don't care what your politics are, there are some lines you just don't cross.

He deserves to be booed everywhere he goes. Who cares what his job title is. I'm sure he's heard far worse.

I agree that it was disrespectful, I would never do that.

On the flip side of the coin they do have the right of free speech. If they choose to use that right in a immature and disrespectful manner, so be it.

Okay, not to split Constitutional hairs here but the whole free speech thing just drives me up a wall sometimes.

I believe that tenet was intended to be interpreted through the lens of common sense and more importantly, common courtesy.

When those two basic and common moral values are violated, is there then any redeemable value in free speech?

I guess what I'm trying to say is there's a stark difference between exercising free speech and being down right mean and nasty.

Agreed
You can't force people to exercise taste, and manners.
Because you can, does not mean you should.

Define common sense and common courtesy. Everyone has their own ideas of what they entail.

Re: GW Bush booed at Nationals' opener

It was mixed w/ cheers and boos. I think it's disrespectful to boo the Pres of the US. You don't have to like him or his views, but i find it pretty childish.

Show a little class.

While i don't like alot of the things that have happened over the last 7-8 years alot of people do a pretty good job playing monday morning qb on alot of the issues. It's just plain disrespectful. If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.

I don't think so, Angryssg; I disagree.

I think we agree more on what's considered to be courteous than not. To an extent I think you're right, but when you throw the word "common" in there, I think we're talking about what's generally and widely accepted as courteous.

For instance, even here, the Mods won't let people say what the want to other members all in the name of free speech, will they? Why is that?

Booing is mean and nasty? Like I said, I'm sure 'w' has heard far worse. I'm sure it wasn't the first time he was booed. Hell... he was booed and had eggs tossed at his limo at his inauguration in 2001. LOL

Re: GW Bush booed at Nationals' opener

If they really want to make a difference then get out and vote. What does booing really accomplish? I'm willing to bet one out of every three people there has no idea why they are booing other than they "don't like the President"

No booing in and of itself isn't mean and nasty. Shit, I love to boo...the other team not the President of the United States. But yeah, publicly booing the Prez is a tad bit mean.
