mike - i went to a few of those sites, unfortunately MD is on a lot of the "cant ship" lists.

bd - my craft beer store lets me special order a case of any beer that can distribute in MD and then keeps it in the back walk in and lets me buy sixers at a time. 10% off if i buy the case.

i found that when they special order a beer, it ends up getting in their normal rotation.
If you go with Breckenridge, their oatmeal stout and vanilla porter are realllly top of the line. Breckenridge kinda pissed me off when they discontinued their basic Pale Ale about 3 years ago. It was perfection.

Breckenridge is one of those old skool original micro breweries (started sometime in the 80s)...they aint newbies.

Another from Colorado that gets constantly overlooked is Avery Brewery...top notch IPA. I mean top effing notch.

Avery is top notch. They are the kings are barrel aged high gravity stouts. They are ridiculously expensive but the best around.

People's Porter | Foothills Brewing Company | Winston-Salem, NC | BeerAdvocate

Foothill brewery, the people porter, not bad. I'm not a big porter/stout guy, but cold winter nights seems to my these beers taste better. Not a bad beer

Not a bad ipa, they are better.kinda similar to heavy seas loose cannon, which I would favor over this one.

Re: Let's talk good beer

Great thread - just a story I saw on the news here in Colorado Sunday morning before the Broncos played the Colts.
The brewery Dad and Dude was on showing a tailgate spread that Dad was talking about.
Then they turned to young Dude about the beer, and they have a new one called Outta Luck. Dude says it has orange crush in it and is great for pounding.
btw their Dank beer is a top notch IPA

Re: Let's talk good beer

i dont want to cause panic but .... i have confirmed through my sources with direct knowledge that there is a Great Divide "brewers picks" shortage as the MD distributor has not been re-supplied by GD for almost 3 weeks now. The distributor's shelves are literally empty.

Specialty Beers | State Line Liquors Elkton Maryland | Liquor Stores Elkton Maryland

^^^ this craft beer store in Elkton looks to be very promising. i feel like ive been there before. ive def gotten off I 95 to look for a bar around Elkton a few times before.

their website lists a ton of beers ive never seen in MD. fair prices as well, equal to what i pay at my store in the city.

^^ this is in elkridge (columbia, right off 95) .. looks like they have a great selection

Re: Let's talk good beer

perfect pour in ellicott city/columbia area has the best variety and selection i have seen in any MD craft beer store. everything seems overpriced by a dollar. titan ipa is 12.99 instead of 11.99, etc. (MD dist still completely out of great divides brewers pick)

tried the smuttynose, pretty good.

w sculpin, my brain is really zeroing in on the grapefruit aspect and it is starting to become a distraction.

some new beer developments ive noticed:

1. beer camp is back!!! - sorta. ballast point's indian pale lager won the contest so they are doing a six pack release of ballast points contribution for only $8.99 a sixer. that is a good discount from the 11 to 15 bucks ballast point beers usually cost.
Electric Ray: India Pale Lager (Beer Camp Across America) | Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. | Chico, CA | BeerAdvocate
im def picking up a few 6ers tonight.

2. sierra nevada has a new 12 pack out called "4 way ipa". at 18.99 its a fair price. Ive never seen a "black ipa" but there is one in the SN variety pack as well as ive noticed other brewers coming out with black ipas. im hesitant to buy a variety pack without knowing i will like each beer. i still have 2 SN porters and coffee stouts from a winter pack months ago.

Sierra Nevada Goes Hop Heavy with First Variety Pack | Community | BeerAdvocate

ill be getting a 12er of this as well.

Drinking a Hi-Res | Sixpoint Brewery | Brooklyn, NY | BeerAdvocate after drinking a Stone Enjoy By IPA | Stone Brewing Co. | Escondido, CA | BeerAdvocate. I also have a 12er of the hoppy lager in the fridge. I tried the 4 way last year and enjoyed it. I believe the black ipa was my favorite.

Re: Let's talk good beer

tried a sixer of Goose island IPA. it is an english style IPA so its like an english bitter meets american IPA, with the english bitter being the dominant party.

it grew on me as i drank it. a cleaner crisp finish which is kinda the opposite of hop heavy american IPAs that leave your breath killer.

i will probably just buy great divide's english bitter over this, but i liked it.

SN's 4 way IPA 12 pack is next.

Re: Let's talk good beer

i dont like to drink during the work week but sometimes when the terps play on a weeknight it has a football sunday feel and i like to drink a couple.

problem is most beers are 7% and up, you drink 4 or 5 and your groggy the next day.

tried new belgium's session ipa. at 4.5% it was tasty and after drinking 4 last night, im good to go today.

Session IPAs are money if you find a good one. Lagunitas Daytime and Founders All Day are great. Heavy seas just released Crossbones which I haven't had yet and Flying Dog has Easy IPA which is good. They are great when you want to have a few but not get tore up.
