Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
I gave it a C. I just didn't see the need to get 2 wr's at the top. For some reason this FO has a hard on for WR's and I just don't understand why. They show it time and time again. First getting Lloyd and ARE at the same time and now this. Why couldn't we have drafted Merling, Kelly or Thomas and Davis?? That way you take care of a HUGE need a DE plus you add a young wr. I didn't have a problem with Davis cause he could be a factor in the red zone. I like the 3rd round pick getting a guard cause we needed a young guy in the mix.

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
Value Grade: A+ (possibly the highest value of all 32 teams)
Needs Grade: B- (at this point we have the exact same d-line as 07, with one high potential addition on the o-line) Overall: A-/B+ depending on what happens this season. If some combination of injuries occur between Kendell, RT, and JJ a lot of fans and analysts will be saying "how in the hell could Washington not address the line w/ all of FA and draft to work with." If the line stays healthy and our offense explodes like it should now the FO will be hailed as geniuses.

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
You're right. I suppose we had more needs, if nothing else for depth, than we did picks. Oh well, that puts us in company w/ just about every other team in the league.

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
WOW!!!
No wonder the redskins never draft: we suck at it. I'll admit Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly were decent picks but what the heck do we need Fred Davis for we have Cooley and Yoder (who makes some pretty good catches in the clutch). We should have pick a D-lineman instead of Davis (Groves, Campbell, Thomas, Jones and Ellis were still availible). We had depth issues at linebacker that were not addressed. We could have gotten Marcus Howard, who is versitile enough to play linebacker and defensive end (almost an exact clone of Marcus Washington) but instead we trade away our fifth round pick and Indy snags him. Why would we go with Chad Rinehart of N. Iowa when Mike McGlynn was still availible. McGlynn brings more experience from playing better opponents in the Big East than Rinehart who played in some community college division at Northern Iowa. We wasted a pick on a punter when Derrick Frost did a tremendous job this season. I agree with the selection of Colt Brennan. We definately could use a young backup quarterback (especially one like Brennan who, unlike Campbell doesn't throw late game interceptions that causes us to lose). Overall the draft was very pathetic and disappointing and I rate it as a D only because of the selections of Thomas, Kelly and Brennan. |

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins
I'm OK with drafting Davis if they think he's going to be a good player. From what I saw he sure looked good at USC. But let's be real. First, this guy is not going to be an everydown player for us. With that pick we could've perhaps got a DE to walk in and start right away. And two we've already got pro bowl TE. So that limits Davis' playing time. I like the player but I just don't see him being a need for us. Makes no sense.
