The guy was suspended for the last 2 years. That says everything I need to know about his character. The chances of him changing for the better are slim at best. |

If what you're saying is that the chances of drug addicts/alcoholics staying clean for extended periods of time after treatment is "slim at best" then I'd have to agree with you, as would most in the clinical professions that deal w/addicts. But there are addicts that turn their lives around, George Rogers & Bruce Smith to name a couple that had their bouts w/cocaine but cleaned up & had good long careers. In my post, I stated that I don't know the extent of his problems & what kind of teamate he is. If the front office feels he's a genuinely good guy/teamate that has just had problems in the past but understands the consequences (losing 2 years of your career & big $ is enough to change most people) & wants to turn things around, then I don't see it as such a stretch to sign him. I also think that the loss of his grandmother might motivate him for the better as well. I certainly didn't mean to come off to say that his behavior isn't a major red flag to say the least. JLC's post makes sense, if they feel Blades can be the future at MLB they may feel they don't need him enough to take the chance. I still think he's worth looking into if nothing else. |

Re: Odell Thurman Cut:
I like the thought of this guy being a good linebacker for nothing, but the Redskins dont ever get guys like this. I have read every late rou d draft pick they got and they all say hard worker great intangibles. They probably wont take this guy, even for free.

If the Raiders I mean Bangles don't want him that's all I need to know. No way we sign him.

Re: Odell Thurman Cut:
Let the cowboys and Jerry Jones have him, our LB's will have to be enough this season we can address that need next year. No need for a player with his issues he just doesn't get it!

Re: Odell Thurman Cut:
Well while we're on the linebacker depth kick, if we do end up signing a former high caliber Linebacker for depth then I think that Takeo Spikes would be a better option. Not saying I really want him, and I doubt the FO will do it, but if it was between Thruman and Spikes I would much rather have Spikes. At least Spikes doesn't have character issues and has been in football as of late.

Re: Odell Thurman Cut:
"Thurman, reinstated by the NFL on April 21, already was on a short leash with the Bengals after missing the past two seasons for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He missed the past several weeks of organized team activities to be with his ailing grandmother, who recently died, according to his representative, Safarrah Lawson.
The funeral for Thurman's grandmother was on May 12 and the Bengals wanted him to rejoin the team for workouts soon after, Lawson said. But Thurman remained with his family in Georgia through Monday, at which time the team informed him he was no longer a Bengal." To me it looks like they released him because he didn't go to workouts after his grandmother died, if my grandma, or any relative died of mine, I'd probably not show up for a month or so.

Re: Odell Thurman Cut:
Too bad Odell Thurman is a freakin thumper, he'd be a good backup linebacker and
special teams guy...With the way the redskins players get hurt, you cant have enough guys with starting experience in the backup role MJ |

Re: Odell Thurman Cut:
To everyone who says that it couldn't hurt to take a look at a guy with character problems then I suggest you watch this video. This is actual footage of GM's and scouts looking at players who have repeatedly f**ked up in the past.

Re: Odell Thurman Cut:
Honestly I'd give hima chance. I'm not saying give him a 7 year $56 mil deal or anything but seriously. Why is it that when it comes to the Skins we are always faking like we need to have these innocent church going nice guys. When Tank Johnson was avaliable everyone said no forget that guy let the Cowboys get him.. Now they have him. A BIG M'Fer to clog up the middle. If he get's in trouble again then you let him go. I mean seriously, we need players. I don't know about you but do we have some serious LB depth somewhere that I don't know about ? It's worth a shot if anything. I'm not so much saying go for Thurman, I would though, but every guy that has a problem it's like No he ran too many red lights I don't want him here. Put some kind of language in his contract that says you blow it you're gone.
