Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)
A message just came accross Comcast Sports Net that said we had offered Miami a round 2nd round pick next year for Jason Taylor. I will look for a link and or more details.

Yup. It's actually a 2nd and a 6th in 2010. From Jlac:
Posted at 6:41 PM ET, 07/20/2008 Skins Trade For Taylor Vinny Cerrato just announced the Skins acquired Pro Bowl DE Jason Taylor from Miami for a second round pick in 2009 and a sixth round pick in 2010.

Wow, I thought they would end up doing this deal anyways before the start of the season. Let's hope that JT still has some gas in the tank and can perform for a couple years.

I guess I'm pleased that it's not a 1st. Also JT is going to be better than Daniels so I can't complain much.
He's going to a great market if he wants major exposure before he starts his Hollywood career.

I hope he enjoys playing here and stays for a few years. A 2nd & 6th round pick is a lot for one last hurrah from JT.

re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)
The thing about trading out of the first round this year was it was unlikely that any of our second round picks would've been holdouts. Jason Taylor, even at his age now, is still good value for a 2nd rounder (6th rounder is just a throw in). I'm dancing with the stars now...

re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)
The 6th is almost valueless, just a throw in deal, but Miami really made out on us with the 2nd. I mean, if Daniels doesn't go down, they either have to settle for a 4th from someone else, or just hold on to him for this season.
This is almost as nice for them as getting a 2nd for Chris Chambers. Not quite that good, but close.

What is his salary terms? Will he demand to another contract? Would Parcells have wanted to trade to us if he still coached in DAL?

Just like some people, I think 2nd rd is kinda too much.. Also JT would be playing as left end, hope it will be a smooth change.. But there's nothing we can do but to hope the best out of this deal.. (I hope he will play more than a yr)

re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)
I thought it was a fair deal, I have no real concerns about his ability to play the run. Freeney is about the same size and has a similar game and the Colts don't struggle to stop the run. I have more concerns about Taylor only playing one season, that would equate to this deal being highway robbery.

I like the deal. This will make the rest of our D much better with a bit more pass presure.

re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)
A 2nd sounds like a lot to me based on what's been reported previously about other teams' interest. Never know though, Vinny might have had some good intel that somebody else was offering a 3rd & something else, so he had to up the offer.
Terrible that Daniels went down, but in one day this really improves our D. I give props to Danny & Vinny for acting w/lightening speed on this after losing 2 DEs in 1 day. Also, we never know if this deal was in the works before Daniels was hurt, but if Daniels' injury was truly the impetus, then give the front office props for letting Blace stick w/his vets. JT & AC; they can't both wear 99, but that's the only down side. If they can get 15-20 sacks between them, which they're capable of, our D will be much improved. |
