Anyway, though today's events we're certainly unfortunate, it's one thing to preach depth, ignore your defensive lines on draft day, and have confidence in your backup players. It's something completely different to say you have confidence in guys like Evans and Wilson, and then freak out and pay a premium for Jason Taylor.
Between now and draft day 2009, we're going to be very happy with this deal. I just want to make a note today: it's going to hurt us more in the long run than it helps us now. I do think Taylor is going to do a lot of things this year to make us forget how much we paid for him, but a second rounder is a lot. I would have given Evans and Wilson a shot to combine to hold down the fort. Veteran depth is pretty cheap if you don't go top rung.
