I heard the exact opposite thing from a friend of mine. Does he realize that the series is based on the book (which is non-fiction) and that some of the actors were the real Marines who invaded Iraq?

Don't know. He was in Ramadi for months, so what does he know;-) Maybe he's making it all up.

I wasn't calling your friend a liar. I was just noting that my buddy was in the 75th Ranger Regiment, which took part in the initial invasion of Iraq. Granted, that's an army unit, but he says GK is pretty true to life.

As Matty pointed out, I think each soldier, marine and airman has a different experience. So, to one person the series might seem unrealistics and, to others, it might seem like a documentary.

I do not have HBO and have not seen any of this but it is very common that even though it is based on a true story things get added and removed to add entertainment value. So while the story line itself may be true all the other stuff was added.
