Re: Quick Question about Zorn's Offense

Well, he used it (albeit somewhat reluctantly) at times in Seattle

Quote:
The latest to employ the shotgun was Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who used it on a few snaps for the first time in Sunday's win against the Rams.

Hasselbeck and quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn used it as a corrective measure for the pressure Rams defensive coordinator Jim Haslett was mounting.

"This was the first time we used Matt in shotgun," Zorn says. "He's always had the option to be in gun. But both he and I like the option to be under center. The rhythm and the timing of the drop really makes the timing of throws much better than the timing of the gun, where you have to retime your throws. But we tried it this week."

I could have sworn we had a thread on this though

Re: Quick Question about Zorn's Offense

When Gibbs was reluctant to use the shotgun (until 2005) for the same reasons as Zorn, everyone said it was outmoded thinking.

The press here in town is puffing this guy because he gives good press conference. Unfortunately that has nothing to do with winning football games. The most common error of journalists is to conflate geniality with broader human qualities and or abilities. I'm somewhat glib with the gift of gab and I'll bet I could sit behind a microphone and make LaCanfora's job as easy as fishing, but it wouldn't make me a good person or football coach. (But I would be a lot better than any of you fuckers)

This is not to say that Zorn won't be successful, it's only to say that the fact that many writers seem to have a man crush on the coach is nothing to judge by.
