You risk an early score, but if you play ball control and treat the end of the first half the same as the end of the game you can end up with back to back posessions, which equates to a turnover.

Also after the first half you've seen your opponent and can make adjustments in order to strike on that first posession after the half. If you get the chance to go up 2 scores, and succeed, it really changes the landscape of any game, no matter who scores first, because your opponent will have to start thinking about the clock if it's midway through the third quarter the first time they see the ball.

I always defer in madden for that reason.
