One can only pray... but what we need to see is Moss the Cowboy killer deep and long all night long.. that's how we beat the Cowboys.

Yeah we need some rookies to step up, but we've also gotten away from throwing Cooley and El short passes on first down. If anything, that helps Portis not to be keyed on so much. I think we'll open things up soon. Either willingly or by neccessity.

I will be very interested to see what changes the coaches make coming off the bye.

I'm actually excited about it. It almost feels like we've been keeping things under wraps besides Portis and Moss. We DO have other weapons. Maybe we'll get to see some against Dallas.

What about Mike Sellers. He is a load. I just haven't seen him with the ball at all this season. If Portis can't play I think we should go with Rock or Betts, but Sellers in mid to short yardage situations. I remember last year when he ran that guy over in the Detriot game. Who do you think clears all that space for portis?

Yea what about him? Real strong fullback/run blocker/teamer.

In this system his primary function is 'A' typical to clear out more space for the Tailback, just as he has been doing.

I saw the presser with Zorn today and one of the beat schlubs said to Zorn that big Mike said remind him that he can run with the ball......Zorn sure got a laugh outta that and said, as he laughed yea thinks for the tip.....big Mike will not be running the football in this system unless we are out of RB's.

Welcome aboard

Welcome to the board. Yeah, I'd like to see Sellers get a few carries myself. So far Zorn has made some adjustments in this offense to fit the players so you never know. He may have a few surprises for the second part of the season.

Word from Redskins park is Portis NOT practicing today, and according to Doc and kevin, the decision to play will be made tomorrow. Rumor is Portis, and Bett's are out! and SA is in!
KICK ASS S.A., he's been there and knows how it is done!!

Where did you get that from? Everything I've heard says Portis will be a game time decision. Zorn said they will evaluate him in the hours leading up to the game and go from there, and he also said Ladell has a better shot to see the field Sunday than Clinton does.

I for one think we need Portis down the stretch and we'd be dumb to rush him back 2 weeks after an injury that commonly takes a full month to heal. Even though I desperately need him to play in one of my fantasy leagues...

If you listen to Redskins Radio the consensus seems to be there's no way Portis plays Sunday night. A grade 2 MCL sprain kept Tomlinson out for six weeks last year. Zorn even said that it would be stupid to risk aggravating the injury. If he's not going to be effective, he might as well stay on the sidelines.

Betts' injury must have been much more serious than I thought. It's been four weeks and he's still not ready to play.

I haven't had much of a chance to listen to 980AM this week. But like I said, I HOPE Portis doesn't play. We need him 100% down the stretch a lot more than we need him at 60-70% for this one game.

Agreed. And you know, with Portis out, Zorn and the offensive coaching staff may have to resort to the unthinkable: relying more on the passing game to move the football.

We haven't seen Jason Campbell be a one-man wrecking crew yet. If it were up to me, I'd put him in the shotgun for 70% of the plays and let it ride.

Wish Portis were playing.
Not only is he having an MVP season from carrying the ball, but if he does not play his blocking ability in pass protection will be missed more than anything.

He is one of the best pass protectors in the league, and I for one do not underestimate that ability.

Looking more like 5/95%...and zero % if we are thinking beyond this game.

CP needs to sit out. Betts/SA and Rock need get keep the ground attack moving with the o-line having a stellar day.

Springs, Washington, Montgomery Still Iffy

From Jason Reid:

Cornerback Shawn Springs (calf) and strong-side linebacker Marcus Washington (shoulder) were limited in practice and said they might play against the Cowboys, although Zorn was more confident about Springs than Washington.

"I don't know about Marcus, but I'm much more encouraged" about Springs, Zorn said. "I did see Shawn run around, and I'm more encouraged about Shawn than Marcus. We'll just have to wait and see."

Betts Intends to Play; Portis' Chances '50-50'

From Jason Reid:

The Redskins received encouraging news about their injured top running backs, learning that primary backup Ladell Betts plans to play Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys and that lead back Clinton Portis expressed optimism about making "progress" as he recovers from a sprained knee

Betts returned to practice in a limited role Wednesday for the first time since he sprained his left knee Oct. 12 in a 19-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams. Washington's second-leading rusher with 156 yards, Betts continued to test his knee in team drills Thursday at Redskins Park.
