Re: There's No Quarterback Controversy
Hell who couldn't be a decent Qb when theres blocking and good running? Its called Improvising. Take what you have and make it work. He doesn't and isn't capable of doing this. Next!

Campbell is very capable, and has improvised successfully (again, I point to the first 8 games of the year). It's very hard to imagine any QB being successful with a injury-ridden offensive line that can't block a tic-tac-toe game and a run game that has been stopped by 4 of the best defenses in the league. When the protection is there, Campbell is moving the ball.

Re: There's No Quarterback Controversy
Wait, I thought we were talking about Jason Campbell. But this sounds like were talking about some people on this site, and the way they understand football.

most qbs can look good when the runningback runs for 130+ and the D makes the opposing offense earn their TDs. |

Re: There's No Quarterback Controversy
The Bengals D is nothing like the tough defenses we've played recently, so this will be Jason Campbell's chance to shine. It will be a big boost if he can throw a couple TD passes and lead us to more than 20 points.

Re: There's No Quarterback Controversy
True, but if I am the Bengals D-coordinator, I'm telling my guys to bring the heat off the edges. With Heyer and Fabini in as our tackles, Jason is going to get killed.

Re: There's No Quarterback Controversy
how about just trying to throw past the first down markers! why is it if we need 8 yards we pass for 3 if we need 3 yards we pass for 2 and so on. The best passer in the league will have a losing season. Frustrating!

Re: There's No Quarterback Controversy
Why do we keep making excuses for JC (4 different offenses, no offensive line, etc.). Face it!! He is a mediocre quarterback who has a long throwing motion, doesn't sense pressure, and doesn’t move well in the pocket like good quarterbacks....AKA Tony Romo & Big Ben for a few examples. Average quarterbacks (Mark Rypien) can look good with a running game, and good offensive line. The question is can Jason be a good QB with an average offensive line, and average running game? My answer would be NO.....

Re: There's No Quarterback Controversy
I think it's funny that people will say that Jason "needs the entire offense to click to be any good." That's how 90% of the quarterbacks in the NFL work. Every one of them needs help, not necessarily from the run game, but it can also come from superior receivers.
Let's take a look at teams who don't run well: -Arizona: Both of there starters are better than Santana Moss (head and shoulders maybe) and I'd go so far as to assert that Steve Breaston would be an upgrade over Randle El. -Colts: No one has ever said Jason Campbell is Peyton Manning, but for the sake of argument, Wayne is better than Moss right now, Clark is more productive than Cooley, and Harrison/Gonzo are better than any 2/3 receivers the Skins have. AND, now that they're healthy they have one of the best pass protecting offensive lines in the league. -Lions: Horrible football team. -Bengals: Horrible football team. -Rams: Horrible football team. There are your bottom 5 rushing teams in the NFL. They have Qb's who I would be ecstatic if JC became, amazing receivers, great o lines, or they don't win football games. The last few games, the Skins have been a bad running team and they've seen similar results to the Lions, Bengals and Rams, a balanced offense helps win games unless you've built a passing football team. Unfortunately, the Skins never aspired to be a passing football team, so until one of the best receiving corps and a great o line walks through the door, it's a little bit tough to judge Jason Campbell. Finally, if you think that Todd Collins would have more success in this system, with no running or pass blocking to go along with a spotty defense, you're out of your mind. No one on this team is playing well and that won't change by switching to a journeyman QB who played 4 or 5 good games. |
