Yeah, but there was plenty more to Champ's decision than just football.

On a separate note, I don't think we actually traded Thrash did we? Didn't he go as a free agent to Philly for some ridiculous contract?

Right. Something about another woman? How is it that wasn't an issue in Denver but it would have been in Washington? Oh well.

Thrash I'm not sure about. How about that illegal formation penalty against him today? Hasn't he been in the league for 12 years or so? It used to be that he got a free pass around here for his great special teams play. He's wearing out that pass too.

Welcome to the board...but your bailey and punt return comments suggest that you are pissed and drinking a ton of beer.
I personally love portis and believe moss returning punts is rather effective.
Alexander is a guy that is amazing considering he's essentially a 3rd stringer....I'm not sure, but I believe he has more sacks than.....hmmm...Jason Taylor.

Zorn proved today, by not having his team up for this critical game, that he's not ready to be a head coach in the NFL. How did you feel when Zorn was named head coach? I was shocked; it's like going to a guy you hired to be a manager and making him CEO. Snyder made a mistake, and he'll try to undo it ASAP. I bet he offers Cowher $10 million/year.
I know another major change sucks, but since it's bound to happen, why not now? As long as Danny is coach, change will be a constant with the Skins.

Why is it that everyone blames Zorn and not the FO (Vinny) look at teams with rookie coaches and the men behind the scenes in the FO. Atlanta (Demetriov), Miami (Parcells), Baltimore (Newsome) and Washington (Cerrato). This is the difference. Dan Snyder if you are reading this board do us all a favor and fire Vinny or hire him as your chauffeur, butler, cook whatever, anything but GM of the Washington Redskins.

The front office holds a lot of blame, but Danny ain't going to fire his friends. And we're stuck with Danny. After this season, I'm not sure Zorn was ready even to be a offensive coordiator (though his play-calling is offensive ; )

I'm not one to say that Zorn needs to go. But his offense sucks so bad it's not even funny. All the checking down and short passes that are not beyond the first down makers are just plain bad coaching. He's calling screens and sweeps on the last drive when we need to be throwing it in the damn end zone. I almost threw my beer at my TV. He does that shit over and over again. He's running Moss on these stupid ass slants and Moss isn't that type of WR. Put Kelly in if you want to throw freakin slants. It's just sooooo many little things I see that makes this offense a pile of garbage.

Okay, so you have a roll out to Devin Thomas, who is supposed to run a hitch past the marker, runs it too short, and drops the ball anyway. What's Zorn's error here (multiple choice style!):

A) That he should have told Devin Thomas to go past the marker (has the kid ever seen a football before)
B) That he should not have been throwing the ball to Devin Thomas in a 3rd and short (even though we would have a bunch of "where are the rookies" threads even had we won)
C) That he should not have been throwing a rollout at all (even though you just two days ago called for more rollouts in the offense)
D) All of the above

I agree that it's a bunch of little things, but we can't act like Zorn's not making any adjustments. Perhaps you just can't sustain offense with this group of WRs.

If Zorn goes theirs no way Campbell is going to make it here. Everyone complains about JC but, every year he gets a new offense. You can'tchange the offense every year and expect it to get better.

If Cowher or any new coach comes in, you have to open up the QB competition. If JC wins it, good.

That was sort of the general consensus if memory serves. After Danny had 4 years w/ Gibbs I would have expected more maturity and competence so I guess I figured Danny had found a diamond in the rough. Zorn, I hoped, would have the kind of leadership quality we all saw from Gibbs but take the offense to a higher level. I think instead Danny found someone who sort of interviewed like a super optimistic yes-man: the exact opposite of Gregg Williams incidentally.

Snyder still strikes me as a total enigma. The ultra-successful typically have a great talent for recognizing talent, for prognosticating what others are capable of. Snyder appears to be the least perceptive "self-made man" in the country - he is absolutely ****ing terrible at recognizing/managing talent.

Maybe it's like some of the other successful hires in the NFL that were never coordinators....I sure don't recall anyone saying Snyder made a mistake when we beat the Eagles & Cowboys early on.

Reality check. We'll finish 7-9 or 8-8, probably 8-8. With all the changes in the off-season and the loss of ST late last year most of us predicted 7-9 to 9-7 and we're fans. Most of the "experts" had us in the 6-10 range.

- We have a young QB, who IS PROGRESSING (check his year-end stats vs. last year, barring a terrible display against PHI & SF) despite what many fans say. He's got a cannon arm, is fairly mobile, appears to be learning the system, doesn't throw many picks, and has improved his release. He needs to protect the ball a bit better (pre-throw) IMO though. If you look at M. Hasselbeck's progression in the WCO under Homgren/Zorn and compare Campbell, next year should be excellent.
- We have an aging OL and unfortunately it's caught up with us this year. If Samuels can have a solid year next year, Heyer develops into a starting RT, Thomas can give us a solid year and we pick up a C and/or G/T we have guys who can provide depth.
- We have small, speed WRs who are solid, but not "playmaker" or gamechanging WRs. Opposing D's don't scheme to "stop Moss & ARE". We have good young rookie WR talent. Not a good recipe for this year. IMO our WR coach is not very good.
- Good FB
- Very good RB with no depth. Portis does have a stamina issue, I know on more than a few occasions he's gotten us down inside the Red Zone with great plays and then goes to the sideline for a "blow". Great backs don't do that, they find a way to finish the drive.
- TE is very good, but not a physical threat (Gates, Gonzalez).
- Our DL is pedestrian. We desperately need a DT (Haynesworth?) who can collapse the pocket and a LDE who is very good. If we can make those two acquisitions in the off-season our D could be a scary unit (in a good way) next year.
- MLB excellent, OLBs solid, but not anything that scares opposing Os.
- Secondary is young and very good, IMO a bright spot if we can re-sign Hall and he doesn't become a locker room cancer.
- Special teams are poor, if the P or K isn't screwing up, someone makes a key penalty. We need a new ST coach...bad.

All this does not a playoff team make. We're like a majority of the NFL, a team with some very solid players, but with holes.

You make some good points and give me some hope. But, the fact we couldn't get up for and hang with a 1-11-1 team says something is broken beyond repair. As for Campbell, his QB rating in the second half is much lower than in the first half. That trend cannot occur next year. He should be getting better.
