Re: Gregg Williams out in J-Ville
I actually feel worse for Williams than for anybody within the Redskins franchise. I guess I was one of the few who believed he should have been the HC w/ Saunders staying on w/ total control of the offense. I truly believe Snyder's massive ego got in the way because Williams came across as so confident in his own leadership.
I hope Williams gets his shot w/ a great franchise.

Smootsmack:
I have heard similar rumblings about Del Rio and Tice. Here is what would give me pause if I owned the Jags... Mike Tice has a nickname around all of the NFL. His nickname is "Meathead". Do you really want a head coach who is known far and wide as "Meathead"? We shall see...

Re: Gregg Williams out in J-Ville
I watched the Jags/Colts game tonight. Since I had no particular favorite in the game - - other than the fact that I love to watch the way P. Manning operates in the pocket - - I decided to focus on the Jags defense to see what it said about Gregg Williams.
Here is my conclusion - after watching the game and then watching the second half over again on tape: Either Gregg Williams completely changed his defensive philosophy or... The Jags played zone blitz a lot; that was a rarity here in Washington. The Jags sold out to stop the run against a Colt team that is much more dangerous passing than running. The Williams' defense here seemed to focus on trying to take away an opponent's strength and not to accentuate its weaknesses. When Manning completed his first 16 passes in the game, the defensive coverage didn't really change at all. Manning wound up something like 29 for 34 and about 350 yards for the game. The Jags never adjusted. That is not a typical game for "Gregg Williams' defense." I do not know what is going on in Jax but that team definitely needs a bunch of changes. There is a lot more talent there than their record would indicate - - particularly on the defensive side of the ball. As I said elsewhere, Jax is a financially strapped franchise. Because the Skins had to pay off Williams this year, his hiring in Jax as defensive coordinator was essentially a "freebie" to them. Maybe they hired him just as a caretaker?

Re: Gregg Williams out in J-Ville
Williams' blitzing scheme heavy defenses were never a good fit for Jacksonville. Hope he does well in his next town.

Re: Gregg Williams out in J-Ville
Williams is a great coach in my opinion, but I don't think we'd be any better off if he was the HC and Blache was the DC. I think we'd be prone to the same sort of mistakes the offense has made in the last three weeks with them as we would be with Zorn/Blache.
Williams to Blache has been a significant downgrade.

Springs came back, and benched Rogers so he could play his boys, Hall and Mike Green. Then, with our three best CBs healthy, he's got Smoot covering Houshmanzadeh and Hall on Chad Johnson. When our defense plays this poorly against the Bengals offense, I don't think we can defend him coming back. I don't think the unit as a whole is poorly coached, but every offensive coordinator we face outcoaches Blache, which was never an issue with Williams.

i saw an interview with blach and he was asked about rogers lack of playing time in this game. blach said that rogers has been sick with the flu all last week and part of this week and as a result rogers was just too weak to play many downs.

Re: Gregg Williams out in J-Ville
Good enough reason for me, but the NFL might want to know why that wasn't on the injury report.

Re: Gregg Williams out in J-Ville
Other coaches have made mistakes, but Blache is the only one I feel we can't win with in the future.

Re: Gregg Williams out in J-Ville
GW is a very good coach. He obviously demand alot of his players. We know that. Getting in to a new situation, he might have ruffled some feathers.
I'd welcome him back at any time. Blache has done a good job though. |
