Re: Portis
I was at the Cincy game and after that loss on the radio on the 5 hour drive home, the cincy commentators mentioned a couple of things about the Redskins:
1st...Portis looked like an old man...not my words! 2nd...the offense did not want to win the game...lack of down field plays! 3rd...the team was not emotionally ready to play a football game! I kind of agree! I don't have all the answers but somethings got to give. |

Re: Portis
Betts put up the same type of numbers when Portis was hurt. Portis is not a playmaker. He is good and you can't argue with his numbers but he is not even the 3rd best back in the NFC East.

Do you think CP breaks long runs? Do you think he is good in short yardage? Do you think he ever makes defenders miss in space? Do you think he falls down on his own way to much? He gets the yardage...but he is far from elite. Elite backs do the things I llisted above. |

Re: Portis
my question is not that Portis is washed up...or the problem! the question sould be whether Portis should be the main focus of the offense! It seems the rest of the team leans on Portis to much! For most of the season he has answered the call. But I think it is limiting the growth of JC and the offense. Around the league I see many offense that go out and win games while here we pass the buck...maybe the defense can...maybe moss can return the kick! I was at the game and did not see a route more than 20 yards down the field...I was looking for it.

Re: Portis
lol i think the responses in this thread prove what the OP was trying to figure out: do skins fans give portis a free pass? the answer is a resounding YES!! portis has never ekked 1 sentence of public criticism of this team 3 years ago aobut gibbs . .oh wait i mean when he threw his O line under the bus this year after 1 game . . oh wait, no i meant this past week about zorn b/c zorn said in response to why portis wasnt used "he didnt practice and betts did and knew the passing schemes we wanted to use".
also your right, no RB over the past 5 years could average less than 4 yards a carry behind our O line b/c samuels, thomas, jansen others have always sucked. they werent a big part of his 1500 yard season nor were they any help in making CP the leading rusher half way thru this season. runningbacks are a dime a dozen, most easy position to fill, but to the people who think there arent 20 other rb in the league who couldnt do what CP has done or better are stupid *&^$ing idiots. (j/k about "idiot" part) go skins!! |

Re: Portis
So much hate..... take off your rose colored glasses about Portis. He has rushed for 1500+ yards once as a Skin. His avg per rush is average at best. Again, I am not a Portis hater, I just don't think he is a great back. He is probably the 4th best RB in the NFC east! If you are a Skins fan and have watched every game over the past 5 years ask your self the following questions
1. How many 30+ runs has CP had? 2. How many times does he just fall over in the open field when he has the chance to break a long run? 3. How many times does he make a defender miss in space 4. How many times has Portis been stopped on 3rd and 1 or at the goal line? Its easy to just call me stupid and an idiot, but can you really argue with my points? I would love to hear legit opinions. I'm talking about his Redskins career as a whole...not just this season. This is probably his best year (especially the first 7 games). I will also admit that his numbers are impressive, he is just missing "something" IMO. |

1. Portis is not a "HR hitter" type back anymore. He also doesn't have WRs who block very well (outside of Thrash) allowing for long TD runs to be broken. He's an excellent all-around back, he's gotten bigger & stronger to go between the tackles better, he can catch out of the backfield, he pass-pros well. 2. Not many I recall. 3. Frequently, more so in the check-down passing game or on screens. 4. Goal line, not so much. 3rd & short, that was an issue early in his time here, but he's bulked up and I don't think this is as much of an issue now. I would like a Brandon Jacobs type back to compliment him. Unfortunately Duckett wasn't the answer. My problem with Portis is his mouth and stamina. No way a featured back heads to the sideline inside the 20 unless he's hurt. I wouldn't categorize this as "sucking wind" after one or two runs, but he needs to finish drives.

Re: Portis
Now why would any Skins fan be angry? Oh no now the fan base is falling apart!! Let's continue to respect each others opinions and perceptions. It's obvious nobody including the Redskins can figure this mess out. Can't we all just get along?
Never mind I'm pissed too!!!!!! |
