2009 Season

[BigHairedAristocrat]

I've had some more time to think, and have come up with the changes I would like to see made to our starting team in 2009.

I know some of these moves seem drastic, but Snyder gave Vinny/Zorn a two year window to fix this franchise. This is the 2nd year. Vinny is fighing for his job and is going to want to make some big moves. I expect us to be very active this year, like how the Jets were last year. Besides that, we had a very slow offseason last year. Historically, we have had alternated every year between having very slow and very busy offseasons. I fully expect us to break the bank landing several marquee Free Agents, like we did when Gibbs returned and we traded Champ for Portis, and acquired guys like Griffin, Springs, Washington, etc. We certainly will have the cap room by cutting a number of old vets. That being said, here is my proposed starting roster for the team in 2009:

OFFENSE
QB: Chris Simms*
RB: Clinton Portis - Splits carries with Betts 70/30
WR: Santana Moss
WR: Devin Thomas
TE: Chris Cooley
LT: Chris Samuels
LG: Chad Rinehart
C: Max Unger (3rd round pick, Oregon
RG: Randy Thomas
RT: Jason Smith (1st round pick, Baylor)

DEFENSE
LE: Demetric Evans
DT: Anthony Montgomery - Rotates with Golston and Alexander
DT: Albert Haynesworth (UFA, Tennessee Titans)
RE: Andre Carter
OLB: Clay Matthews (2nd round pick**, USC)
MLB: London Fletcher
OLB: Carlos Dansby (UFA, Arizona Cardinals)
CB: Nnamdi Asomugha (UFA, Oakland Raiders)
CB: DeAngelo Hall
SS: Chris Horton
FS: Laron Landry

SPECIAL TEAMS
K: Sam Swank (6th round pick, Wake Forest)
P: Shane Lechler (UFA, Oakland Raiders)
PK: Rock Cartwright
PR: Justin Tryon

----------------------------------------------------

Noteable Players Cut/Traded
Jason Campbell
Jason Taylor
Cornelius Griffin
Shawn Springs
Marcus Washington
Carlos Rogers
James Thrash - Replaced by Billy McMullen, UFA
Fred Smoot - Replaced by Matteral Richardson, PS

FORMER STARTERS RETAINED AS BACKUPS
Casey Rabach - Primary Backup C (will be cut in 2010)
Jon Jansen - Primary Backup RT (will be cut in 2010)
Stephon Heyer - Primary Backup LT
Rocky McIntosh - Primary Backup OLB

COMMENTS
*Jason Campbell Traded to Tennessee for Chris Simms, straight up. Jason Campbell is an ideal fit for Tennessee's offense. Chris Simms is an ideal fit for our offense. Its a good deal for both teams. Maybe we could get a low-round pick in addition to Simms for Campbell, but I don't think Vinny is that good of a negotiator.
**2nd round pick acquired via trade for Carlos Rogers. Normally, I wouldnt like the move, but Asomugha is a clear upgrade over Carlos, and this move would garner us a draft pick.
