Re: JLC: Rogers, Possibly on the Way Out
I'd also say a high second for CR is a different ballgame than a mid or low second. But what team picking in the first ten picks of the draft is looking for a Carlos Rogers like player to complete their roster?
There's just no way we get a deal worth trading him. I also happen to think we're overblowing the hands thing. He's dropped two real game changing plays in his career: that one in the 2005 divisional round, and the one in the Pittsburgh game this year, but he's got 3 INT in 23 games since 2007, and one of those picks went to the house. All three of them came with considerable return yards. So yeah, he's definately going to drop some INTs in the future, but for a guy who plays defense for a reason, I think he catches an acceptable amount.

The best corner in the league, Asomugha, has fewer picks than Rogers in more games since 2007. In fact, he did not intercept a pass his first three years in the league. Sure, his 8 INT season in 2006 is what made him an elite corner in the minds of most offensive guys, but it's not like he's been in decline since that season, though his INT total certainly begs the question. I guess what I'm saying is that while I share your frustrations with Rogers on those missed opportunities, I think you have to realize that he created the opportunity in the first place by reading the route and breaking on the ball. To say that his INT production has been piss poor would be like saying that London Fletcher's forced fumble ability (1 as a Redskin, 11 in his entire career) is piss poor and that he's thusly expendable. I just don't think that's how a players value to the team should be graded, at least not seriously when deciding his trade value.
