The fact that this plane some how floated saved probably half if not more of these people onboard. With the water temps and that swift current if people had to enter the water and get pulled away from the plane it would have made the rescue take alot longer. With those water temps people only have about 20 min. before hypothermia sets in and if the passengers got spread out alot of them would not have survived. Here in our area this past Tuesday we had a boat flip with six guys thrown in the water and even though the CG was there in 20 min. two men still died and three are still in the hospital.
