Hey Trample, I see that you are from Varina Va. I graduated from Henrico high school in 1988. So I think that you will have an appreciation for some of these interesting nuggets of info that I'm about to lay down.

You see, unlike some of these guys who think that they know about what diversity is. And preach about how we should all be more tolerant. I lived it growing up in a diverse neighborhood in the 1980's. I also have quite a few good friends that are dare I say, are of color.

I did not vote for our current president because of his complexion. I voted against him because I thought that his goals and aspirations to lead America were nowhere close to mine. And the suspect associations he had.

While working today at Highland Springs high school, I noticed that most of the staff and students at this 93% African-American school wore some kind of pro-Obama gear. And also, the school had on their projection screens, news coverage of the inauguration pretty much all during the school day.

I heard alot of things that disturbed me as I passed by these classrooms during my day of work there. I heard things like: "Hey y'all, our president is BLACK! Hey everybody, we got our n!@@a in the White House! There will be fried chicken in the White House tonite!" Or when Joe Biden kissed his sons at the inauguration, I heard a several people say "what is he gay or something?" These things were all said with administrators there in the classrooms, and nobody ever corrected these actions.

I thought to myself that this was a truly sad and pitiful way bring in change. And then you would hear the "Yes we can" chants in the hallways. And, I thought to myself again, yes we can what? Elect an African American for president?.?. We sure did. I just hope that these same people are truly willing to roll up there sleeve and be productive and responsible citizens that would be in keeping with the speeches that Obama gave today.

The world is watching now........

I graduated from Varina in 96.
I really don't care about ole boy's race. If it had to be a black guy then I'd loved to get Doug Wilder in there to talk smack and fight Congress like he did City Council.
A local talk station had a test from the 1900s for a high school exit test form some mid-west state. I had a hard time with the questions.
To me they're dumbing the schools down. I barely graduated from Varina because it was the same old drivel year after year. How many times can you read Edgar Allen Poe or The Awakening? When I went to college I got strait As.
I didn't vote for any of them because of their views. Yeah McCain was a war hero but so was Grant and he didn't turn out to be such a great President.
My boys Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter got laughed off stage. I couldn't tell the difference between Obama or McCain really.
Is today a great day? I guess for Black people and Democrats. Yes I understand that it's a big thing for Black people. But MLK said we should judge a person by their character not by the color of their skin. I'm not one of these yuppy types who believes he needs to show the world we're not a racist country, if anything Germany and Japan do!
I just get frustrated, especially at work. They tried to pull that race card B.S. on me just because I didn't like Obama. Homie don't play that. They were all glued to tv today. They were so happy.
So be it. The man won fair and square. I'm just worried that everyone is so entralled with Keynesian Economics and that Obama's and Congress' answer to this economic downturn (and everything else) is to throw money at it. McCain is in the same camp IMO.
Here's a little insider knowledge from working in the banking industry. A lot of banks that didn't need or ask for TARP money were strong armed into taking it. I'll bet you a Silver Eagle that the money they say they can't account for went strait to Red China to pay off some debt so they wouldn't dump the T-Bills they're holding.

Was this a good day for the country? We'll have to wait and see. At least we'll have a President who can speak the language.

I thought Obama gave a good speech. Good but not great. I think he is at a disadvantage because the press has built him up as a great orator and it is difficult to deliver greatness everytime. Of course as a conservative I am biased, but I thought the best bit was the part about outlasting those who would seek to destroy us and extending the open hand if they will unclinch the fist.

I was watching the little lunch they have for the new president in Statuary Hall and Tim Gietner(sp?) was pacing and talking on his cell phone. More good economic news no doubt. I wouldn't trade places with that guy for anything. Obama will be judged completely on the economy. Everything else is a sideshow.

On the economy or fixing the economy? What if there is another terrorist attack? Whatever happens someone is always going to try to "cut off his nuts."

If he can turn this economy around, they will repeal the 22nd? Ammendment and he will be President for life.

In terms of terrorism, it's a question of scale. If they bomb an embassy and kill tens of people, it won't sidetrack his administration. He will do a more vocal version of Clinton. If there is a large scale attack in this country, then he has a two-headed monster to deal with (economy and national security). My take is that Al-Quada has been weakened to the point that they cannot mount a large scale attack. Most of the other groups are Sunni and Sunnis only attack if they get the go ahead from some authority like Khameni in Iran or Nasralah, the Hesbollah Chief. I don't think they will percieve that it is in their interest to go on the offensive in the near future - at least not against the U.S. I think they will sit tight for now. If they were to attack an Obama led U.S., surely world opinion fron Beijing, to Moscow, to Western Europe, to the developing world would turn savagely against them. There is nothing in it for them in that regard.

The only thing that scares me is that $35 oil may drive the Iranians to create trouble in the usual places in order to drive up the price. A continual series of small scale actions might have this affect. Kidnappings, assasinations and the like.

Some of the language used is crude and offensive but no self-respecting African American would say "there will be fried chicken in the White House tonight" and mean it, not even kids. I mean, I've been giving my conservative friends hell lately with "the White House needs a new paint job," "it's back season," "Obama birthday should be a federal holiday," "the black man is taking over," "watch-out white folks, there's a new black sheriff in town," etc, etc, etc, so on and so on.

Anywho, I find the language you used off-putting. You being an adult and all I wonder why didn't say something and set "these people" straight? Evil prevails after all when good men fail to act.

Comrad Saden1, don't be "off-put" by the way I say "these people". For I didn't mean any disrespect when I referred to them as such. They are what they are. Maybe next time I should say "those disrepecful little shits". But, even I know that is pretty much an inappropriate thing to say about these fine students, who are so eager to learn at this school steeped with rich history and tradition.

If you heard and saw some of the things that I witnessed the other day, you too would have been "off-put". As far as me correcting some of those students' (and faculty) behavior on the spot like you suggested. It simply wasn't my place, for I am not apart of the administration there. I'm merely a Joe-the -contractor-type trying to make that school a safe place to get an education.

Some of the things that went on during the inauguration at that school were similar to what Jay-Z and Young Jezie (or what ever his name is) did at their concert. It was very classless if you ask me. It's also an all too familar pattern. But, I'm just saying.

I have a similar set up with my doctor. You'd be surprised how much cheaper health care is when you give the doctor cash.

I wasn't really disappointed. In fact, I think in many ways his speech will model his Presidency, or should I say, what people expect from his Presidency and what he'll actually deliver on.

First of all, there wasn't a lot of pop and sizzle to his speech. I thought it was sobering, but not dazzling. Obama has now become a victim of his own success. He's sort of suffering from the Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant syndrome. People come to the game expecting you to drop 40 or 50 points a night and when you don't, "Kobe was off tonight." So there's some of that at play with Obama whenever he steps to the podium. My favorite line was, in fact, the same as 70's. Our enemies can't/won't outlast us. He also rejected the false choice in order to have safety we must compromise our freedom.

Personally, I'm glad it's over. I froze my ass off yesterday!

Not really dissappointed since I expected "pep rally" speak. I think people got pumped and excited, so hopefully they won't buy homes with mortgages they can't reasonably afford.

I did like the line where he said something like "People remember you for what you create, not for what you destroy". I thought that was a good message that I had not heard before from other inauguration/nomination acceptance speeches.
