Evans just isn't a difference maker in my opinion. He kind of reminds me of a backup center in basketball who comes in for maybe 10 minutes, get a couple of rebounds, commit a couple of fouls and keep the team afloat while the starter rests. I don't think his value should be underestimated, but it shouldn't be overestimated either.

imo hes not a starter in this league. hes a backup defensive end who can fill in every once in a while capably. if he is a starter on any nfl team there is a problem imo. let him see how many teams will pay him to be a starter, when he realizes its zero he will accept a lower contract from us

Yeah, but, we have no real starters at DE that would start anywhere else.

What did he say that was a threat? He simply said he wants to be a starter. He's a free agent so there's nobody to threaten.

I say offer him a cap friendly deal if he doesn't take it show him the door. We need to mix up the line a little anyway he is certain not a high priority type guy we need to up grade away why not start with him we need someone that is going to make the quarterback a little nervous and with proper scouting we can do that with a nice draft or undafted free agents.

Well, I think we all have debatable opinions on that. I am not going to over value our players just because they are Redskins. Carter had 23 tackles and only 4 sacks. I don' think he applies pressure on a consistent basis at all. A starter on this defensive line? yes. On a good defensive line? Never.

I don't think he would start for every team necessarily but I do think he would start for a good majority.

I don't think I'm over-valuing him anymore than people here tend to under-value our players just because they are Redskins.

Scouts Inc. ranks him as a 76, which means he's a solid starter.

I'm kind of torn on Evans. I don't think we will re-sign him because he's going to price himself out of our range (especially with Rosenhaus) but I also don't see him going somewhere else to make a Pierce or Clark like impact on another team. He's a little more than 'just a guy' but not too much more.

I really like Evans and would hate to lose him but I wouldn't give him starters money either. If he walks, it gives some of our younger guys a chance to step up and show what they can do.

He didnt say he wants to be the starter (according to this), he just wants the assurance to have the chance to start.... as he should. Anyone who goes to training camp should be looked at as a potential starter...if I went to training camp and had pads on, I should be a potential starter, whoever is best should play.... now if he wants a gauranteed position, or the money of a starter, than see ya later...but I really wanna see this guy back in B & G next year.
